Engineer - Central Engineering, Relay Protection P&C Standards

Core Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop, test, implement, and maintain protection and control (P&C) system standards, including philosophy documents, relay setting guides, templates, drawings, and test procedures.
  • Research industry best practices and emerging technologies to support continuous improvement of established P&C standards.
  • Perform engineering analyses, evaluate new hardware and software solutions, and support the deployment of protection system upgrade initiatives.
  • Support PRSI department efforts by implementing new strategies, initiatives, and processes to enhance the design, operation, and reliability of P&C systems.
  • Provide technical support to other PRSI functions, including protection system asset management and remote monitoring and analytics of substation P&C devices.
  • Oversee vendor activities and perform technical reviews to ensure contractor work meets engineering standards and departmental requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to implement relay protection standards, obtain feedback, and manage expectations.
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience. A minimum of two years of relevant experience in relay protection and/or control systems engineering disciplines, required. or
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 4 years of engineering work experience. A minimum of two years of relevant experience in relay protection and/or control systems engineering disciplines, required.
Relevant Work Experience
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in relay protection and/or control systems engineering disciplines, required.
  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), required.
  • Proficiency in using PSS/E CAPE, Aspen or equivalent fault study analysis tools, required.
  • Experience with various microprocessor relay platforms and software, required.
  • Ability to write engineering specifications and standards, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel throughout the company service territory and work at company locations as needed.
  • Ability to wear the required PPE as needed.
  • Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor conditions, and in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in power plants and high voltage substations.
