Engineering Manager (Identity)

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team building and operating a secure, scalable and highly available identity platform for our digital products. The team owns critical identity capabilities such as authentication, authorisation, user and service identities, access control, session management, identity lifecycle, integration APIs and platform reliability.
  • Lead, coach and grow a high-performing engineering team responsible for identity platform services.
  • Hire, onboard, mentor and retain strong engineers; support career development through regular feedback, coaching and technical guidance.
  • Create clarity for the team by translating business and platform goals into an actionable engineering roadmap.
  • Foster an inclusive, accountable and collaborative engineering culture based on ownership, learning, respect and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong engineering practices across the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across architecture, design, code reviews, testing, release readiness, incident reviews and operational excellence.
Identity Platform Ownership
  • Own delivery and operation of core identity capabilities, including:
    • Authentication and sign-in flows
    • Authorisation and access-control services
    • Role-based and attribute-based access models
    • Service-to-service authentication
    • Identity lifecycle and account management
    • Token, session and credential-related services
    • Identity APIs and integration patterns for product teams
  • Ensure the platform is secure, resilient, scalable and easy for internal product teams to integrate with.
  • Drive platform evolution from product-specific identity logic towards reusable, governed and well-documented identity services.
  • Work with security, product, architecture and platform teams to ensure identity services support current and future business needs.

  • Proven experience managing software engineering teams responsible for backend, platform, security, infrastructure or identity-related systems.
  • Strong software engineering background with experience designing, building and operating distributed systems.
  • Practical understanding of identity and access management concepts, such as authentication, authorisation, SSO, MFA, OAuth/OIDC, SAML, RBAC, ABAC, tokens, sessions and service-to-service authentication.
  • Experience running production services with high availability, strong observability and clear operational ownership.
  • Ability to provide hands-on technical leadership across architecture, design reviews, code quality, testing strategy and production readiness.
  • Strong understanding of secure software development practices and security-by-design principles.
  • Ability to lead multiple initiatives, manage dependencies and make pragmatic trade-offs.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to engineering, product, security and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, coach, mentor and grow engineers.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • English proficiency at B2 level or above, including the ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly in written and spoken English with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building or operating customer identity, workforce identity, IAM, CIAM, authentication or authorisation platforms.
  • Experience with high-scale, low-latency, cloud-native services.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containerised services, service mesh, API gateways or event-driven architecture.
  • Experience with security-sensitive systems, regulated environments or platforms handling personal data.
  • Experience defining platform roadmaps and driving adoption across multiple product teams.
  • Experience with incident management, SRE practices, SLOs, operational reviews and post-incident improvement.
  • Experience with Golang, Python, Java, C#, TypeScript or similar modern engineering stacks.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS (strongly preferred), Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience collaborating with architecture, security, compliance and infrastructure teams.
