Engineering Manager, Maps Search Intelligence
As Engineering Manager of Maps Search Intelligence, you will lead a team building the core search algorithms, large-scale ML models, and generative AI systems that power how users discover places and interact with Apple Intelligence. You will own the team's technical roadmap, drive execution across the full ML lifecycle, from research and evaluation through production deployment, and partner closely with product, design, and platform teams across Apple to shape the future of Maps Search.
This is a deeply cross-functional role. You will influence product strategy directly, translating engineering capabilities into roadmap decisions that reach hundreds of millions of users.
Minimum Qualifications
MS in Computer Science or a related field, with 8+ years of software engineering experience including 3+ years managing engineering teams.
Proven track record leading high-performing teams in search, personalization, information retrieval, recommendation systems, or a related ML field.
Deep expertise in generative AI and LLMs, with hands-on experience building and deploying these systems in production at scale.
Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, aligning engineering teams with product management, design, and research partners to define and deliver features at scale.
Track record of influencing product direction, translating engineering capabilities and data-driven insights into roadmap decisions and strategic priorities.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to deliver leadership-level presentations and influence strategic decisions at the executive level.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Experience evaluating and deploying search features incorporating large-scale GenAI, deep learning, and natural language processing solutions.
Deep understanding of search indexing, query understanding, and ranking algorithms.
Background delivering consumer-facing features or products used at global scale.
Experience establishing cross-team technical standards, shared evaluation frameworks, or platform capabilities adopted by partner teams.
