Role description\:
You’ll provide technical leadership, management and engineering expertise across the River Class Destroyer (RCD) Programme’s Power and Propulsion discipline, delivering complex scope involving new technologies, design changes, and collaboration with customers, suppliers, and key programme stakeholders.
You’ll be responsible for delivering the power and propulsion system to cost, quality, schedule, and performance requirements, while coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams, resolving technical conflicts, and ensuring the successful integration of systems and capabilities across the platform.
Core duties\:
- Leading delivery of the Power & Propulsion discipline, ensuring design maturity, requirements compliance, and effective system, compartment, and spatial integration to time, quality and cost
- Managing suppliers throughout the lifecycle, from technical specification and contract award to design review, integration, and delivery
- Driving design development and programme execution, overseeing 3D model reviews, layout development, issue resolution, and milestone achievement
- Maintaining delivery plans, managing risks and performance, and providing clear governance and stakeholder engagement across the programme
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to develop the design through the design lifecycle, including but not limited to the detailed design team, build yard and prime contractor
- Manage, maintain and be accountable for detailed plan, including assigning tasks to the team, monitoring and reporting on progress and performance against the plan
- Managing, coaching, and developing a high-performing team of Engineers, fostering an inclusive culture, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring professional standards
Essential skills\:
- You have a good understanding or power generation and propulsion system design and integration with strong project management, performance measurement, and risk management skills
- You can manage high-performing teams through goal alignment, coaching, talent development, change leadership, and accountability, managing and maintaining scope to a plan to time, quality and cost and report against it
- You can deliver complex engineering solutions to demanding specifications, including resolving conflicts, managing trade-offs, and achieving successful outcomes through collaboration and negotiation
- You hold strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal technical teams, IPT leads, and customers
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant discipline), with Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards professional registration
