A little more about your role…

We are seeking enthusiastic Engineering Managers to join our expanding Rail International team to work on Major Rail projects in Ireland.

As an Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the technical delivery and assurance of complex rail and metro infrastructure systems across Ireland.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will oversee and coordinate design, procurement, installation, and testing activities, ensuring that contractor outputs are compliant, integrated, and aligned with client and regulatory requirements.

You will act as a key technical interface between clients, contractors, and internal engineering teams, supporting the successful delivery of systems from design through to testing and entry into operation.

Responsibilities will include…

  • Support the technical assurance and delivery of rail and metro systems, from design through to construction and commissioning
  • Act as a technical focal point for design, implementation, and delivery of assigned systems or subsystems
  • Review contractor submissions, including design documentation, system architecture, plans, and technical reports, ensuring compliance with requirements
  • Oversee contractor activities across design, procurement, installation, and testing phases
  • Coordinate technical interfaces and design integration, managing RFIs, design changes, and technical clarifications between stakeholders
  • Facilitate the design assurance process, ensuring alignment with safety, operability, and maintainability requirements
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent and integrated system design delivery
  • Monitor project progress, proactively identifying risks, issues, and opportunities to maintain programme momentum
  • Support and contribute to design reviews, workshops, and governance processes
  • Produce and review technical reports, performance metrics, and progress updates for senior stakeholders
  • Ensure adherence to quality, assurance, and engineering governance processes across all project phases
  • Contribute to maintaining a strong culture of health, safety, and quality

You will join WSP’s growing Rail International team in Ireland, working on some of the country’s most high-profile and technically challenging infrastructure programmes.

You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across WSP’s global network, supporting the delivery of integrated, sustainable transport solutions that improve connectivity across Ireland.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

Experience

  • Extensive experience within rail, metro, or light rail infrastructure projects
  • Proven experience supporting or delivering design assurance and technical delivery on complex, multidisciplinary projects
  • Experience working across design, installation, and testing phases of infrastructure programmes
  • Experience interfacing with contractors, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience in site activities, inspections, or asset condition reporting
  • Strong experience in technical reporting, documentation review, and project coordination

Skills / Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of engineering standards and specifications (e.g. IS, BS, EN and relevant international standards)
  • Understanding of civil, structural, systems, and integration aspects of rail infrastructure
  • Ability to review and interpret technical drawings and design documentation, including CAD outputs
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
  • Experience managing design deliverables, interfaces, and coordination activities
  • Strong understanding of technical assurance and governance processes
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate engineering risks
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to support high-performing multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in engineering tools (e.g. AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS or equivalent)

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards / equivalent professional accreditation)
