Job Description Summary
The Engineer performs general maintenance work to ensure hotel physical plant quality and safety standards are achieved and maintained. The Engineer takes care of the building, equipment and grounds of the hotel. Position Summary
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s facilities, guest rooms, equipment, and grounds to ensure a safe, clean, functional, and guest-ready environment. This position requires a hands-on individual with prior hotel engineering or hospitality maintenance experience who can perform preventive maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and respond promptly to maintenance requests while delivering exceptional guest service.
The ideal candidate is flexible, dependable, self-motivated, and able to adapt to the changing needs of a full-service hotel operation. This position may require working weekends, holidays, evenings, and varying schedules based on business demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Guest Service
- Deliver exceptional service in all interactions with guests, team members, and vendors in accordance with hotel service standards.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance requests and service calls.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance at all times.
- Assist in resolving guest concerns related to maintenance or facility issues.
- Communicate effectively with all departments to ensure a seamless guest experience.
Building Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on guest rooms, public areas, meeting spaces, restaurant outlets, offices, and back-of-house areas.
- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and general building systems.
- Repair and maintain guest room fixtures, furniture, televisions, appliances, lighting, doors, locks, and other equipment.
- Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist with maintaining swimming pools, fitness centers, and other recreational facilities as assigned.
- Support renovation projects, capital improvement projects, and hotel improvement initiatives.
Preventive Maintenance Program (PM)
- Complete scheduled guest room Preventive Maintenance (PM) inspections and repairs in accordance with hotel standards.
- Inspect guest rooms for functionality, safety, and overall condition, including HVAC units, plumbing fixtures, electrical components, lighting, furniture, doors, locks, windows, and life safety equipment.
- Document PM findings and complete corrective actions in a timely manner.
- Track and maintain accurate PM records and work orders.
- Identify recurring maintenance concerns and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with hotel preventive maintenance programs and engineering standards.
- Support preventive maintenance initiatives throughout the property, including public spaces, meeting rooms, restaurants, and back-of-house areas.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and correct safety hazards.
- Participate in emergency response procedures, including fire alarms, power outages, severe weather events, and other emergencies.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection reports, and records.
- Properly handle, store, and dispose of chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
- Follow all lockout/tagout and life safety procedures.
Property Appearance & Grounds
- Assist in maintaining the hotel's curb appeal and overall appearance.
- Pick up litter and debris from hotel entrances, parking areas, loading docks, and surrounding grounds.
- Clean windows, glass doors, and other public-facing areas as assigned.
- Assist with meeting room setups, breakdowns, furniture movement, and event support when necessary.
- Ensure engineering work areas, workshops, and storage areas remain organized and clean.
Inventory & Operational Support
- Monitor engineering inventory levels and notify management of supply needs.
- Assist with receiving, transporting, and storing supplies and equipment.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.
- Support other hotel departments during high occupancy periods, special events, and operational needs as directed.
Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) to three (3) years of hotel engineering, hotel maintenance, or hospitality maintenance experience required.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and general maintenance practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment independently.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work orders in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and guest service skills.
- Must be reliable, flexible, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations throughout the property.
Schedule Flexibility
- Must be available to work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments as business needs dictate.
- Must be willing to adjust schedules and assist during emergencies, high occupancy periods, and special events.

- Support the hotel's commitment to guest satisfaction, operational excellence, and teamwork.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer or General Manager.
