Engineering Technician

Job Description:

We are looking for an Engineering Technician to join our team in Wantage, Oxfordshire.

This role will provide support to development project activities and manage equipment set-up and modifications, sample manufacture, testing and evaluation.

Work activities will also include equipment service/maintenance, generating work instructions defining equipment use and test protocols, delivering training, completing mandatory safety assessments and checks on new and existing equipment, and completing associated documentation.

Main Responsibilities

  • Organising and coordinating on-site trials: Find and source the necessary documentation for trial: tooling specifications, engineering standards of manufacture, tool matches; should be able to locate tooling on site and complete the setup of the required equipment.

  • Manufacture, measurement and evaluation of samples: know how to use on-site equipment for quality checks and understand good product vs bad product and what adjustments are required.

  • Key contact responsibilities: Creating and maintaining safety documentation for equipment, training others, liaising with required maintenance providers, fault finding and providing support for resolution.

  • Area management responsibilities: deputy duty holder if required, maintenance and up keep responsibilities for the area, house keeping/5S.

Required Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship to City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3, plus HNC or equivalent (other engineering qualifications considered)

  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering, including development, manufacture, assembly, commissioning or servicing of production tooling and equipment

  • Strong fitter’s skills: assembling tooling, clocking and precision‑setting machines, producing samples to specification

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and data graphs

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and troubleshoot equipment/process issues

  • Willing to undertake occasional travel to UK and European Crown plants to support project trials

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to problem solve and work under pressure
