Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor to join our team in Tonga. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting our people, strengthening our safety culture, and supporting operational excellence across our business.

About the Role

As the EHS Advisor, you will act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS systems, policies, and practices across the business.

Key responsibilities include:

Safety Leadership & Culture

  • Champion a strong safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and engagement with employees and leaders.
  • Promote Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) principles and proactive safety behaviours.
  • Support the development and effectiveness of Health & Safety Representatives and site safety committees.
  • Provide leadership by identifying and stopping high-risk activities and facilitating risk reduction initiatives.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS management systems, policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Monitor compliance with environmental, health and safety legislation, regulations, standards, and company requirements.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
  • Maintain EHS registers, records, training documentation, incident reports, and compliance dashboards.

Incident Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and facilitate incident investigations and corrective action processes.
  • Monitor EHS performance metrics and prepare monthly reports for management.
  • Analyse trends, identify improvement opportunities, and support the implementation of preventative measures.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across safety and environmental performance.

Training & Capability Development

  • Identify training needs and develop and deliver EHS training programmes, inductions, toolbox talks, and refresher training.
  • Coach and support managers, supervisors, and employees in the effective application of EHS systems and procedures.
  • Ensure training records are maintained and compliant with company standards.

Environmental & Operational Support

  • Support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.
  • Conduct workplace monitoring activities, including assessments of hazards such as noise, dust, and other environmental exposures.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness planning and coordinate emergency drills.
  • Support injury management, rehabilitation, return-to-work, and fitness-for-work processes as required.

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

You are a practical and influential safety professional who enjoys building relationships and partnering with operational teams to achieve positive outcomes.

You will bring:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in an Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management, incident investigation, auditing, and workplace safety systems.
  • Experience working in high-risk environments such as logistics, transport, manufacturing, construction, infrastructure, ports, or related industries.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of an organisation.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confidence delivering training and facilitating workshops and investigations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and EHS management systems.
  • Tertiary qualification or certification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in injury management, environmental compliance, auditing, or workers' rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements within Tonga and the Pacific region.
