Environmental Officer

Our Moranbah North Mine has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Officer to join the team on a permanent basis, based in Moranbah, QLD. The Environment Officer supports all aspects of the environment function for the underground coal mine. Working together with Environment team and Operations, this role will see you contribute to driving the environmental performance of the mine, maintain compliance with corporate and legislative requirements and deliver on the Annual Environmental Plan.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Environmental team to deliver targets safely, optimally, and in accordance with the Annual Mine Plan.
  • Participating in the monitoring, analysis, and reporting on programs for land, vegetation, cultural heritage, water, and waste.
  • Support the development and implementation of Environmental Management plans and systems to improve site environmental performance such as land, vegetation, cultural heritage, water and waste.
  • Assist the Environmental Team regarding environmental concerns and actions in order to address them in a timely and effective manner.
  • Inform and educate management, supervisors and employees about the EMS and provide coaching to ensure a high level of awareness, commitment and compliance with EMS processes and guidelines.
  • Managing onsite routine monitoring and compliance with license conditions.
  • Review of the site environmental management systems (EMS).
  • Provide compliance-related advice to operations personnel where required.
  • Produce timely and accurate reports and plans, including statutory documentation, as required.
  • Support environmental corporate and regulatory reporting and assurance activities.
  • Land disturbance advice and permitting.
  • Monitoring of site disturbance activities to ensure compliance to legislative requirements.
  • Support in the management of contractors and projects on-site related to the Environmental works.
  • Tertiary qualifications in an environmental discipline or related degree are required with knowledge of environmental issues relevant to the coal mining industry highly regarded.
  • Experience using ArcGIS (Pro) or similar mapping software.
  • Familiarity with Risk Management Processes and Controls.
  • Experience in understanding, interpreting and analysing relevant environmental data.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Intermediate excel skills, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Full-time permanent position based at Moranbah North Mine, Moranbah
  • Monday to Friday site role with flexible working arrangements available
