Job Description\:
As an Export Control Lead Practitioner, you will serve as a subject matter expert within our Legal Export Control function supporting the wider business. You will play an important role in developing and sustaining compliance with international regulation.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work as part of a specialist support function, on an exciting submarine programme, understanding business strategy, embedding compliance and working with the customer and our industrial partners.
Core duties\:
- You will be responsible for articulating legal and contractual obligations into business wide policy and process to enable sustained compliance with export control laws and regulations. With this, you will provide guidance and awareness on best practice to the programme
- You will establish and maintain arrangements to ensure our business complies with all legal and regulatory obligations associated with the legal and contractual obligations the business need to comply with
- You will be acting as the subject matter expert and be a key point of contact for day-to-day export control advice and an escalation point for export control queries
- You will proactively engage with stakeholders to anticipate risk areas, taking action to implement timely solutions to prevent programme delays
- You will be responsible for additional tasks including - assurance audits, investigations, identifying root cause and implementing effective corrective actions, alongside identifying and managing risk, opportunity and implementation of improvement activities
Essential Skills\:
- You will require a degree or equivalent qualification and experience of working in export controls, preferably in the defence sector. Compliance related experience in other areas may be considered, i.e. legal, procurement, commercial
- You will require knowledge of ITAR, UK Export licences, FMS and other country export legislations
- You will need to input a strategic and creative approach to support with the complex licencing challenge within this export control role
The Export Control Programmes Team\:
Here in the team, we are supporting the Dreadnought submarine programme which is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
