External Moderators – Faculty of Humanities

Lyceum College invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced academic professionals to serve as External Moderators within the Faculty of Humanities. Moderators play a critical quality assurance role, ensuring the credibility, fairness and academic integrity of our assessments across all Humanities programmes.<\/span>
<\/p>

Moderators provide independent oversight of assessment instruments and marked scripts, validate the quality of marking, and support continuous improvement through expert developmental feedback to internal examiners and Module Leaders.<\/span>
<\/p>

Please note:<\/span><\/b> Individuals appointed as External Moderators may not simultaneously serve as Module Leaders or internal academic markers within the same programme or qualification.<\/span>

            • Review draft examination papers, and other assessments for accuracy, academic integrity, clarity and relevance.<\/span>

            • Confirm alignment between learning outcomes, module content and assessment tasks.<\/span>
              <\/span><\/li>\n
            • Evaluate marking rubrics and memos for fairness, consistency and appropriate cognitive level.<\/span>
              <\/span><\/li>\n
            • Recommend improvements to language, structure, difficulty weighting and overall design.<\/span>

              Post\-Assessment Moderation<\/span><\/b>

              • Review samples of marked scripts across all grade bands.<\/span>

              • Verify consistency, fairness and accuracy of marking.<\/span>

              • Identify irregularities or risks related to academic integrity.<\/span>

              • Recommend remarking where necessary to ensure fairness and compliance.<\/span>

                Mentorship and Developmental Support<\/span><\/b>

                    Requirements<\/h3>

                    Minimum Requirements<\/span><\/b>
                    <\/p>\n

                    • A Master\u2019s degree in a relevant Humanities field (essential).<\/span>
                      <\/span><\/li>\n
                    • At least three years\u2019 experience in higher education teaching and assessment.<\/span>
                      <\/span><\/li>\n
                    • Strong expertise in assessment design, marking, and moderation.<\/span>
                      <\/span><\/li>\n
                    • Solid understanding of CHE standards, NQF levels and quality assurance principles.<\/span>
                      <\/span><\/li>\n
                    • Excellent academic writing, analytical and communication skills.<\/span>
                      <\/span><\/li>\n
                    • Ability to provide impartial and development\-focused evaluation.<\/span>
                      <\/span><\/li>\n
                    • Access to a laptop/desktop and reliable internet connection.<\/span>
