Job Summary:

The Facility Service Worker position is an essential part of the Department of Culture, Parks, and Recreation. Facility Service Workers are responsible to set up facilities (e.g., tables and chairs) for special events and/or programs as well as being a department representative for evening events and to keep the Island Grove buildings clean and well maintained before, during and after events. They are also responsible for regular cleaning and maintenance including scheduled deep cleaning, as well as performing some minor maintenance tasks consisting of basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall and minor repairs to the facilities.

The exact workdays and shift assignments have not yet been determined, so candidates must be available to work a day shift or an evening shift as well as some scheduled overtime, working as late as 12:00 a.m., occasionally. Days off will be mid-week and successful candidates must be available to work both Saturday and Sunday. Responsibilities primarily fall into two areas: custodial and setup/teardown. Specifically, the Facility Service Workers are responsible to set up facilities (e.g., tables and chairs) for special events and/or programs as well as being a department representative for evening events and to keep the Island Grove buildings clean and well maintained before, during and after events. They are also responsible for regular cleaning and maintenance including scheduled deep cleaning, as well as performing some minor maintenance tasks consisting of basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall and minor repairs to the facilities. Experience, Education, and Skills include Education, Certifications, Licenses & Equip.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements:

  • One (1) to two (2) years of customer service experience.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license held for a minimum of two (2) years with a good driving record.

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,

AND

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual – English/Spanish.

  • 2 years plus of related experience.

  • Knowledge of maintenance and minor repair as it relates to public buildings.

  • Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.

Travel:

  • Category A-Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings, trainings, or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees the cleaning of CPRD facilities.

  • Follows written and/or verbal instructions.

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the general public.

  • Handles difficult situations using tact, patience and good judgment.

  • Attends safety sessions and keep informed about safety and emergency procedures.

  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Provides basic building upkeep and maintenance including changing light bulbs, painting, and wall patching.

  • Assists in deep cleaning projects at multiple facilities during closures.

  • Provides setup and tear down for facilities events.

  • Use of software to schedule facility events and needs.

  • Communicate with supervisors all custodial and cleaning supply needs.

  • Assists with snow removal as needed, including: hand shoveling, snow blowing, operating the Gator with plow and applying ice melt.

  • Operates small equipment such as power tools, shop equipment, lifts, buffers, vacuums, extractors, power washer and auto scrubbing machines. etc., as well as larger equipment including forklifts, loader, skid steer, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

  • Frequent interruptions and heavy public contact.

  • Required to work weekdays, nights, weekends, evenings and some holidays.

  • Exposure to dust, fumes and cleaning chemicals.

  • Works in varied weather conditions.

  • May have some exposure to chemicals, electrical and plumbing materials.

Physical Requirements:

  • Strength and stamina enough to walk, stand, stretch, bend, lift or carry up to 60lbs.

  • Manual dexterity enough to complete daily work such as equipment repair, hand tools, drive and operate motor vehicles.

  • Operate vacuums, buffers, floor scrubbers, extractors, and hydraulic lifts.

  • Manual labor, prolonged standing and walking.

  • Vision enough to perform such functions when identifying materials to complete maintenance tasks.

  • Mobility enough to walk over uneven, rocky surfaces.
