Facility Service Technician — Electrical
About Your Role
The Facility Service Technician — Electrical is a Data Airflow (DAF) employee deployed as embedded supplemental support staff within a client data center facility. Day-to-day directives and operational priorities are driven by the client’s facility management team, including their Director of Operations, Facility Manager(s), and Engineering Manager(s). This role is critical to sustaining the electrical reliability and resilience of a large-scale, mission-critical data center environment. The technician operates, maintains, inspects, and troubleshoots a full range of electrical power distribution, protection, and conditioning systems to ensure continuous uptime.
What You’ll Do (Job Responsibilities)
● Perform routine and corrective maintenance on electrical systems throughout the facility, including 120V control power wiring, 480V distribution wiring, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and Static Transfer Switches (STS).
● Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot motors and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to support mechanical and cooling system reliability.
● Monitor and document electrical system performance including power quality, load readings, and alarm states across distribution infrastructure.
● Conduct and document regular building rounds, recording readings from electrical distribution and power conditioning equipment.
● Execute preventive maintenance (PM) work orders, method of procedure (MOP) tasks, and corrective maintenance activities within client SLA requirements.
● Support safe, coordinated electrical switching and isolation operations under established MOP frameworks and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols.
● Assist in root cause analysis (RCA) and incident documentation following electrical anomalies, equipment failures, or power events.
● Coordinate with client engineering staff, third-party vendors, and service contractors for scheduled maintenance and emergent repairs.
● Maintain accurate records within the facility’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
● Support commissioning and testing activities for electrical infrastructure as directed.
● Uphold all DAF and site-specific electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E arc flash and shock hazard protocols and permit-to-work requirements.
● Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done:
● 3+ years of hands-on electrical maintenance experience in a data center, mission-critical facility, industrial, or equivalent environment.
● Demonstrated proficiency with 120V control power wiring and 480V electrical systems, including UPS, ATS, and STS.
● Solid working knowledge of three-phase electrical systems, power distribution, and power conditioning equipment.
● Familiarity with motors and VFDs, including troubleshooting and basic commissioning support.
● Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, panel schedules, equipment schematics, and technical manuals.
● Strong troubleshooting capability with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical failures under pressure.
● NFPA 70E qualification or site-equivalent electrical safety training (required).
● Experience with CMMS platforms to log work orders, track PM completion, and document findings.
● Preferred: Experience with medium-voltage (13.8 kV) electrical systems and associated protective equipment.
● Preferred: Familiarity with relay protection schemes and relay settings configuration.
● Preferred: Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent trade certification.
● Preferred: OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
● Physical ability to perform the demands of the role: prolonged standing and walking, working in confined spaces and elevated work areas, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
● Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
