The Federal Work Study, Gallery Event Assistant position provides hands-on support for event set-up and execution specific to the Graphis100 exhibition, opening on Friday, June 26th and closing on Saturday, July 25th.

The student will assist with logistics, setup, guest services, and on-site operations, contributing to a successful and engaging event experience for all guests as well as the students and faculty of the Academy of Art.

This position directly supports current students by contributing to an exclusive event featuring award-winning student artwork. The Graphis100 exhibition is a prestigious contemporary visual arts collection celebrating and showcasing the most outstanding projects from this past year, including students from the Academy.

This position supports a Federal Work-Study student’s educational and vocational goals by providing hands-on experience in event planning and logistics while developing transferable professional skills applicable to a variety of career paths. These skills include time management, collaboration, customer service and adaptability.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and coordination of the Graphis exhibition.
  • Support event setup and breakdown (e.g., signage, table set-up, painting, display installation)
  • Help install and deinstall artwork under staff guidance
  • Assist with managing the gallery space including opening and closing the space to visitors and monitoring event spaces to ensure safety and organization
  • Provide guest services, including greeting industry and honored guests and answering any questions related to the exhibition
  • Perform administrative tasks such as guest attendance tracking and basic event documentation (photos), if requested
  • Maintain clear communication with supervisor and team members throughout all phases of the event

Qualifications:

  • Have successfully completed at least one semester of classes at ArtU.
  • This position is fully on-site at 2801 Leavenworth, candidates must be able to travel to the Cannery.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills as well as attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Willingness to perform physical tasks (e.g., lifting, squatting, standing for extended periods)
  • Flexible availability to support install, deinstall and gallery monitoring
  • Skilled with common office tools such as email and Microsoft Office (spreadsheets, word processing, etc.)
  • Prior retail or customer service experience preferred
  • Gallery or Docent experience is preferred

Pay Rate:
$19.18 per hour or approved rate for specific position
