Job Description

Field Service Engineer – Automated Airport Screening Systems

Location: Boston Logan International Airport (Boston, MA)

We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to support and maintain our Airport Passenger Checkpoint Automated Screening Lanes (ASLs) at Boston Logan International Airport. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of advanced electromechanical screening equipment and supporting software systems that help keep airport operations running efficiently and securely.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically skilled professional with experience in industrial automation, material handling systems, electromechanical equipment, or field service engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform unscheduled corrective maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on automated screening systems.
  • Diagnose and repair complex electrical, mechanical, and software-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot computer hardware and software components.
  • Troubleshoot field wiring, Siemens PLC-based control systems, and AS-i bus network communications.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure proper performance and compliance with operational standards.
  • Perform technical cleaning and servicing of equipment.
  • Document maintenance activities within the maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Replace components and parts as required during maintenance activities.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts, consumables, and tools.
  • Support equipment installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and operational support to customers and end users.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and improve field support procedures and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Field Service Engineering
    • Electro-Mechanical Maintenance and Support
    • Project Engineering
    • Industrial Automation
    • IT Systems Support or Quality Assurance
  • Experience troubleshooting and/or installing UL-listed control panels and control cabinets.
  • Experience working with material handling systems, automated equipment, or similar technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to remain effective in high-pressure situations and respond quickly to system failures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain TSA SIDA security clearance.
  • Able to successfully pass all applicable government background investigations, including TSA and Federal law enforcement security screening requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Linux or Unix environments.
  • Experience with Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial communication networks, including:
    • AS-i Bus
    • Ethernet
    • TCP/IP
    • ControlNet

Schedule and Travel

Employment Type: Full-Time

  • 40-hour work week on a shift-based schedule.
  • May be required to respond to customer emergency service calls outside normal shift hours.
  • Approximately 10% travel for training and professional development.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequently carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly work within airport security checkpoint environments.
  • Exposure to:
    • Moving mechanical parts
    • Electrical systems and potential shock hazards
    • Airborne dust and debris
    • Passenger belongings and waste materials
    • Cleaning agents, lubricants, and solvents
    • Moderate to occasionally high noise levels
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, talk, and hear throughout the workday.
