Field Service Power Generation Technician
We are looking for a talented Field Service Power Generation Technician / Mechanic to join our Distribution Business in Hodgkins, IL.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Completing repair activities on generators or components
- Engaging with customers in a courteous and professional manner
- Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools
- Maintain detailed records of service
- Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies
- Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products
- Maintain own tools
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Broad mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance abilities.
- High Voltage / Low Voltage experience.
- Capable of electrical repair and maintenance with minimal supervision – hands on exposure to working on power generation products.
- Primarily engaged in preventative maintenance or basic repairs/diagnostics on generators.
- Basic Diesel Engine experience.
- Requires direct supervision and review of workmanship quality.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ hands-on experience working with power generation equipment, diesel engines, or industrial electrical/mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
- Proficiency with diagnostic software, multimeters, and other standard electrical/mechanical testing tools.
- High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform intermediate-level troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on diesel and gas generator sets, transfer switches, and related power generation equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, load bank testing, and equipment inspections while accurately completing service documentation and reporting.
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues with limited supervision and provide occasional support or guidance to Level 1 technicians.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications
- Technical school training or certification in diesel technology, electrical systems, or power generation.
- Familiarity with ATS systems, paralleling applications, or advanced generator control systems (e.g., PowerCommand, Deep Sea, ASCO).
Additional
- A current valid license is required for this roll
- Must be 18 years old with 2 years driving experience
- This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free from major violations
- A CDL may be required to obtain upon hire
- Federal law requires a CDL holder to be 21 years of age or older
