Field Support Engineer, Dongtan, Korea
About
Tesla Motors is seeking a Field Support Engineer in South Korea. This role is at a key connection point between our worldwide service centers and the development and production base in Silicon Valley, California and Shanghai, China. The responsibility is to keep our vehicles on the road through proactive analyses of the vehicle fleet and to reduce their time spent in service centers by effective remote/on-site diagnostic work.
Responsibilities
• Debug systems and perform diagnostics on field failures both remotely - looking at data logged by the vehicle, and directly in the field
• Provide technical support in order to minimize vehicle downtime, through day to day coverage of internationally distributed service cases
• Regular collaboration with Regional Technical Support Specialists to ensure consistent and stable global service operations
• Provide Technical information/support to the Regional Technical Specialist network
• Provide assistance to the training team on developing advanced Technician training courses
• Support technicians in the field with troubleshooting techniques and remote diagnosis, travel to perform field diagnosis or repair
• Recognize trends and patterns in field failures and provide written feedback to Product Support Engineers to drive future designs
• Assist Product Support Engineers to ensure new issues are fully investigated and that countermeasures are in place
• Assist and support Product Support Engineers, Product Excellence, and Failure Analysis team members to perform further root cause analysis on field failures
• Assist projects and support Product Support Engineers to evaluate vehicle new design features/fixes and perform regional testing
• Assist improving service diagnostic tooling and equipment at both Software and Hardware level
• Support with high level Incident response requests
• Technical support for local teams, Government affairs, Homologation, Legal and Compliance teams
• Availability for occasional off-hours work and traveling
• Support market specific feature and homologation verification activities
Requirements
• Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within the service engineering organization
• Strong ability to be self-directed and work independently, with strong organization and documentation skills
• Exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities and challenges
• Strong analytical problem solving skills and hands-on experience with hardware, tools, instruments, CAN or similar protocol analysis
• Experience with complex automotive and electromechanical systems, preferably electric vehicles or high voltage DC systems such as DC storage or DC-DC converters
• Skilled with common workplace and database software (MS Word, Excel, Visio, Access, etc.)
• Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
• Experience with Service Engineering teams and working practice with Engineers within certain subsystems
• Bachelor's degree or higher in automotive or mechanical engineering preferred
• Native Korean and be able to communicate in English
Preferred
• Experience with environmental and safety requirements
• Experience with OEM Diagnostic equipment, tooling and advance troubleshooting methods
• Using Python, C++, Qt, UDS is preferred
• Experience with CAD systems such as CATIA
• Broad Automotive experience
• Additional foreign languages a plus
