What you'll do
You will play a pivotal role in supporting the Commercial function through rigorous financial planning, performance tracking, and capital governance. Your responsibilities will include leading the monthly reporting of Commercial capital and opex, providing insightful analysis and commentary to senior stakeholders, and partnering with cross-functional teams to influence decision-making and ensure effective financial control. You will also be involved in business case development, investment appraisal, planning and budgeting, and capital governance, continuously seeking to drive value creation, optimise cost performance, and ensure disciplined capital allocation across the organisation. Additionally, you will prepare high-quality financial inputs for key governance forums and act as a subject matter expert in Commercial capital governance, contributing to the strategic decision-making processes at Sainsbury's.
Who you are
You are a qualified accountant with a strong background in financial planning and analysis, particularly in capital investment appraisal. Your expertise in building and evaluating business cases, forecasting financial performance, and managing capital governance underscores your ability to drive value creation and strategic decision-making within a dynamic and complex commercial environment. With your strong stakeholder management skills, financial acumen, and advanced analytical capabilities, you play a pivotal role in shaping investment decisions, ensuring financial control, and driving efficiency across the organisation.
Essential Criteria
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent recognised accounting qualification)
- Demonstrable experience in FP&A and capital investment appraisal, including building business cases and assessing investment returns using financial evaluation methods such as NPV, IRR and payback
- Proven ability to apply financial analysis across P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statements, with evidence of evaluating the financial impact of business decisions and investments
- Experience leading or supporting financial planning activities, including budgeting, forecasting and corporate planning within a commercial or operational environment
- Demonstrated capability to partner with senior stakeholders and communicate complex financial information clearly, supported by advanced Excel and financial modelling skills to inform decision-making
