Financial Accountant

Your Role as Financial Accountant

Reporting to the Lead Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for supporting month-end processes, statutory reporting, and financial integrity across the organisation.

You’ll combine strong technical skills with a collaborative approach, working closely with both finance and operational teams to deliver accurate, insightful and timely financial information.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading by example, demonstrating behaviours aligned with WMQ’s values of integrity, respect, empowerment, hope, justice, compassion and innovation.

  • Maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.

  • Preparing and reconcile balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies.

  • Assisting with statutory compliance, including BAS, GST, FBT, payroll tax and other regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Supporting the preparation of financial reports, year-end financial statements and external audits.

  • Contributing to budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and strategic financial analysis.

  • Assisting with cash flow reporting, treasury activities and financial reconciliations.

  • Driving process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and support system enhancements and SOP maintenance.

What We’re Looking For

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance plus CA/CPA qualification (or equivalent).

  • Experience in financial and statutory reporting.

  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards.

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).

  • Experience with ERP systems (TechnologyOne and/or Power BI highly regarded).

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data for non-financial stakeholders.

  • High attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

A Valuable Addition, Yet Not a Must-Have!

  • Experience in not-for-profit, health, aged care, or community services

  • Exposure to multi-entity or multi-cost centre environments

Essential Requirements

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status (or as required by legislation and WMQ policy)

  • Relevant probity checks required by legislation and WMQ Limited policy.

  • Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel for work
