Plans food preparation by reviewing menus and food production sheets daily. Assists with ordering food inventory. Oversees and participates in the assembly, cooking, baking and seasoning of foods. Adheres to sanitary procedures for handling, cooking, and serving food. Cleans cooking equipment and refrigerators, and maintains workstation in a clean and orderly manner. Adheres to state and local health department regulations, ensuring the production area is clean and food is stored properly. First Cook - Checks in food deliveries, comparing items received with requisitions. Trains and supervises production.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education Requirement :

High school level of knowledge. Formal education in food service supervision or cooking preferred.

Minimum Experience Requirement :

Minimum of three years experience in hospital/LTC food service. Must be able to operate and maintain kitchen equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of basic principles of nutrition. Good communication and interpersonal skills. First Cook - Minimum of five years of experience in hospital food service with progressive responsibility. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to independently take initiative and exercise good judgment in decision making. Ability to work efficiently and effectively under deadline pressures and to simultaneously handles multiple projects. Professional maturity that daily sets the tone in carrying out the responsibilities of the position. High degree of honesty, integrity and confidentiality. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to undertake new responsibilities as assigned. Ability to work under stress.

Minimum License Requirement :

Serve Safe certification within one year of hire. HACCP certification within one year of hire.

Physical Requirement/Working Conditions :

Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable disease and household chemicals, heat and humidity, and cold. Risk of injury from operation of equipment. Stands and walks for most of the working day. Light to moderate lifting. Must be able to bend, stoop, push and pull.
