Job Description\:
As a Senior Engineer Flight Systems (Mechanical systems), you will play a key role in the design, development and support of aircraft mechanical systems, including hydraulics, flying controls, landing gear, propulsion, engine starting and fire detection systems. Supporting both in-service aircraft and future capability enhancements, you will contribute across the engineering lifecycle while providing technical leadership, supporting supplier activities and helping to develop the capability of the wider engineering team.
Core duties\:
- Support the delivery of engineering activities relating to aircraft mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with technical, safety and airworthiness requirements.
- Provide technical support to fault investigations, applying structured problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Contribute to the assessment and resolution of product safety issues, supporting risk assessments, safety documentation reviews and safety case development.
- Support the definition, development and implementation of aircraft design changes and modifications throughout the systems engineering lifecycle.
- Maintain awareness of product performance and in-service support activities, ensuring engineering solutions are aligned with operational requirements.
- Provide technical support to customers, including responding to engineering queries and supporting updates to technical documentation and publications.
- Assist with airworthiness investigations and the review of technical instructions and engineering data.
- Work closely with suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders to support programme delivery and resolve technical challenges.
- Participate in technical reviews, project meetings and stakeholder engagements to support the successful delivery of engineering activities.
- Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues across the wider engineering team.
Essential Skills\:
- Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline.
- Experience in aircraft mechanical systems engineering, with knowledge of systems such as hydraulics, flying controls, landing gear, propulsion, engine starting or related aircraft systems.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and the application of the engineering lifecycle, including the ‘V’ model.
- Knowledge of engineering principles associated with the design, integration, support and modification of aircraft equipment and systems.
- Experience applying structured problem-solving and root cause investigation techniques to technical issues.
- Ability to produce and interpret technical documentation, engineering data and reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to work with engineering databases and technical toolsets.
- Experience supporting system and component integration, safety and risk assessment activities, and aircraft through-life support.
- Experience working with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams within a regulated engineering environment.

Join our Flight Systems team at Brough, where you'll work within a highly skilled group of engineers responsible for the mechanical systems that support military fast jet aircraft operations. The team provides technical governance, safety assurance and engineering expertise across a range of critical systems, working closely with suppliers, customers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective engineering solutions throughout the aircraft lifecycle
