Job Description\:

As a Senior Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in the management and delivery of safety activities across a range of aircraft systems, including hydraulics, flying controls, landing systems, electrical generation, fuel, propulsion, environmental control systems and crew escape systems. You will be involved in hazard identification and analysis, safety requirements management, safety case development and continuous improvement activities, while providing technical leadership and helping to develop the capability of the wider Safety team.

Core duties\:

  • Maintain and update Flight Systems safety analyses, ensuring they remain accurate, robust and aligned with programme and regulatory requirements.
  • Review aircraft design changes and modifications, assessing their safety impact and producing supporting safety statements and documentation.
  • Conduct hazard identification and analysis activities, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Generate, review and maintain sub-system hazard analyses across a range of aircraft systems.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of in-service queries, incidents and emergent safety concerns, providing timely safety engineering input.
  • Produce and review risk assessments, ensuring hazards are appropriately identified, evaluated and managed.
  • Contribute to safety process workshops, product safety forums and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and the wider safety community to support the development and maintenance of platform-level safety arguments and safety cases.
  • Provide safety engineering expertise to support the continued airworthiness and safe operation of military aircraft systems.

Essential Skills\:

  • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in safety engineering within a complex, highly regulated engineering environment.
  • Knowledge and practical application of system safety methodologies, including Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and Safety Case or Safety Justification development.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and the application of the engineering lifecycle, including the ‘V’ model.
  • Experience identifying, assessing and managing technical and safety risks throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving and root cause investigation techniques.
  • Ability to produce, review and maintain technical safety documentation and engineering reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to work with engineering databases and specialist toolsets.

Join our Flight Systems Safety team at Brough, where you'll work alongside experienced engineers responsible for ensuring the safety and airworthiness of military fast jet aircraft systems. The team provides specialist safety engineering expertise across a wide range of aircraft sub-systems, supporting in-service platforms and working closely with engineering, programme and customer stakeholders to deliver robust safety solutions throughout the product lifecycle.
