As a Head Start Food Service Worker, you will work 30 hours per week and enjoy paid time off during Spring Break, Summer Break, and Winter Break<\/span><\/span>.
<\/p>

PURPOSE OF POSITION:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Work as a member of the\nnutrition team and help provide healthy nutritious meals to Head Start\nstudents. To assist with preparation and storage of food for Head Start children\nas required by Head Start Performance Standards and USDA Guidelines.<\/a><\/span>

DUTIES:<\/span><\/b>
<\/p>

  • Transports food to\nclassrooms within Head Start centers, to provide safe, sanitary, and pleasant\nmeals for Head Start children and staff. <\/span>Heats up food in microwave, when necessary.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Follow USDA\nGuidelines and Virginia State Health Regulations.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Interacts with staff,\nstudents, and families in a friendly manner.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Assists the cook\nin meal preparation of slicing, panning, bagging, labeling, and packaging of\nfood in preparation for delivery and service to Head Start students.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Washes dishes,\nsilverware, and pots daily according to State Health regulations of Virginia.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Uses spare time\nwisely to take advantage to complete weekly cleaning schedule.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Complete weekly\ninventory and maintain all supplies on a first in first out basis.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Stores food and supplies properly in\naccordance with kitchen policy and procedures, following USDA Guidelines and Virginia State Health Regulations. <\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Ensure all expired\nfood items are disposed of and logged in a waste log.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Keeps kitchen and all equipment clean and\nsanitary at all times.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Communicate menu /\ninventory issues with Nutrition Manager so menu corrections and adjustments can\nbe made.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Communicate needs\nof the classroom to the Cook and Nutrition Manager.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Wears proper\nattire and slip resistant shoes daily.<\/span><\/a>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Always maintain\nprofessionalism while in Head Start service.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Always maintains\nprofessionalism while working at Head Start Agency.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Attends staff\nmeetings as needed.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Performs other\nduties as assigned by the Nutrition Manager or Director.<\/span>

    QUALIFICATIONS<\/span><\/b>: <\/span><\/span>
    <\/p>

    • Requires knowledge\nand 2 years of experience in their area of Food Service.<\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Must have High\nSchool education or GED.<\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Have or complete\nwithin 90 days of employment: Food Service Managers Certification.<\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Must have reliable\ntransportation and valid VA Drivers License.<\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • The ability to\nread and understand recipes and assigned tasks.<\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Comfortable with\nuse of email and technology.<\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Flexible in\nassignments of location, works together as a team.<\/span>
      <\/span><\/li><\/ul>

      • <\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/span><\/span>The ability to lift 30lbs.<\/span><\/span>

      • <\/span><\/span><\/span>The ability to stand for long (4 hours or more at a time) periods of time.<\/span><\/span>

      • <\/span><\/span><\/span>The ability to withstand the changing extreme hot to cold temperatures of\na kitchen.<\/span><\/span>
