Overview
At Lago, Forward-Deployed Engineers (FDEs) are engineers embedded with customers.
They build, integrate, and optimize Lago in production environments: ensuring adoption, scalability, and impact.
This role blends engineering depth with delivery ownership and customer collaboration.
You’ll write code, deploy systems, and translate real-world use cases into product-ready insights.
FDEs are not part of the reactive support queue, and they’re not isolated in core product development. They sit at the intersection of engineering and delivery: the engineers who turn product flexibility into customer success.
What you’ll be doing
Own technical delivery for Tier 1 customers: from architecture design to deployment.
Build custom integrations, connectors, and workflows using Lago’s Ruby on Rails APIs, React, and TypeScript stack.
Design data ingestion pipelines and automation scripts (PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka).
Configure and optimize billing, metering, and event processing setups tailored to customer environments.
Collaborate with Support Engineers on reliability handoffs and Core Engineering on product extensions.
Write reusable code, documentation, and best-practice templates for future implementations.
Surface recurring patterns or feature gaps to Product and Engineering for roadmap input.
Mentor customer teams on Lago’s architecture, SDKs, and deployment patterns.

Requirements
4+ years of experience working closely with APIs and SDKs (in Ruby/React would be a bonus but can be multiple languages)
Deep understanding of REST APIs, authentication, and integration patterns.
Strong SQL and data modeling skills (PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka a plus).
Experience designing and deploying production-ready integrations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to manage delivery timelines and coordinate across teams.
Nice to have
Experience in technical consulting, professional services, or customer engineering.
Familiarity with Terraform, Docker, or CI/CD environments.
Background in billing, payments, or developer platforms.
Prior contribution to open-source or customer-led product delivery.
