The Research Assistant supports scientific investigations by preparing samples, maintaining equipment, conducting experiments, and documenting data. #CB

Job Standards and Performance Expectations

  1. Mission Alignment

    1. Actively engages the Catholic and Franciscan mission and identity of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University by modeling the Franciscan values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting justice for the communities we serve, and integrating the Catholic and Franciscan intellectual traditions in programs, courses and services

  2. Laboratory Operations and Maintenance

    1. Prepares reagents, buffers, culture media, and experimental solutions

    2. Maintain an organized laboratory environment; Maintain laboratory notebooks

    3. Monitor laboratory inventory, make orders, and store items upon arrival

    4. Use sterile laboratory techniques, autoclave plastics and glassware, and culture and maintain cells

  3. Assist with Experimental Assays

    1. Planning, designing, optimizing, and interpreting these tests to ensure they yield reliable and reproducible data

  4. Assists with Training

    1. Assists with training and mentoring undergraduate Student Researchers on laboratory techniques

  5. Data Management

    1. Record experimental findings in Laboratory Notebooks

    2. Input data into computer databases

    3. Assist in compiling results for reports

  6. Equipment Maintenance

    1. Clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments to ensure a safe, sterile, and functional workplace

  7. Inventory and Safety

    1. Stock and order laboratory supplies, safely handle hazardous materials, and adhere to biological and chemical safety regulations

  8. Sample Preparation

    1. Receive, process, and label specimens or samples

  9. Administrative Support

    1. Provides administrative support to the Program Director/Faculty/Department

  10. Other Duties as Assigned

    1. Perform other duties, as assigned or requested

EXPERIENCE

  • One (1) year of Laboratory experience, preferred

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • An interest in working in a Laboratory setting alongside undergraduate students
