In the UK, we own, operate and are significantly developing the 370 acre top tier COMAH site Saltend Chemicals Park (SCP.) With a cluster of world-class chemicals and renewable energy businesses, it’s strategically positioned on the UK’s busiest ports complex and at the forefront of our energy transition plans.

The Opportunity

We are now recruiting for a Functional Safety Engineer.
The Functional Safety Engineer will provide technical/engineering advice and support to activities on px operated assets and projects.

You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.
  • Provide technical expertise and knowledge of industry good practice to develop and execute the functional safety management plan and review documents in line with continuous improvement practices for the role. Ensure as far as practically possible, all assigned work is carried out in compliance with agreed budget and schedule.
  • Provide px asset production operations and project personnel with specific technical support, in coordination with site teams, ensuring continual & cost effective improvement.
  • Provide technical supervision, direction and support for graduate and engineer level members of the engineering and maintenance teams and other disciplines within the wider px engineering team.
  • Technical review and comment of design documentation for ongoing projects related to px Saltend Chemical Park assets.
  • Review of 3rd party documentation.
  • Review of inter-discipline deliverables and information from a Functional Safety perspective.
  • Responsible Functional Safety engineer for multi-discipline design and safety reviews.
  • Management and selection of third parties in their undertaking and delivery of specific pre-defined scopes, ensuring work delivered meets the job brief.
  • Aid understanding of Functional Safety to the wider px workforce through delivery of training sessions and development of Functional Safety material.
  • Take personal responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others, and champion px’s ZERO harm charter.
  • Instrument, electrical or other relevant STEM degree (BEng minimum or equivalent)
  • TUV FS Eng
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of relevant technical safety legislation, standards, & good practice.
  • Experience of full project life cycle from concept to operation.
  • Working knowledge and experience in functional safety lifecycle activities across the breadth of the BS EN 61511 or BS EN 61508 functional safety lifecycle.
  • Experience in specification, design and verification of safety instrumented systems.
  • Experience of reading and interpreting documents such as hazard & risk assessments, functional safety assessments, functional design specifications, standards and practices, operating and maintenance manuals and product safety manuals.
  • Can develop functional safety lifecycle documents to high standard including Safety Requirement Specifications, Functional Safety Management Plans, Failure Data Reports, PFD calculation reports (using software packages for the calculations), SIF Registers and Verification documents.
