Gas Transfer System Engineers

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking qualified Chemical Engineers or Mechanical Engineers to support both ongoing and new missions for the Gas Transfer Systems Technology Group.

The position will provide engineering expertise to support Lifetime Extension Program Development Tasks and Reservoir Surveillance Activities and Reporting for the Gas Transfer Systems Technology Group in SRNL.

The selected candidates will collaborate on a team to conduct the assigned technical work. Ability to interpret technical data and writing technical reports, and peer reviewed publications is required.

  • Responsibilities will include data analysis, laboratory support, calculation development, and practical application of equations of state for gases.
  • Candidates will have the ability to analyze data from development and surveillance tests, derive conclusions, troubleshoot issues with data and test systems, and communicate findings to customers.
  • This role will entail the processing, loading, and testing of pressurized containers.
  • The position will also require regular scheduling and financial reporting duties, along with occasional travel to work on project teams across the Nuclear Enterprise to meet Design Agency requirements.
  • Experience with Design Labs/Requirements would be a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS, + 4-6 yrs; MS + 3-5 yrs; PhD + 2-4 yrs of relevant experience in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a “Q” security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is legally required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS/PhD in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • The preferred candidate would possess a working knowledge and understanding of gas manifold pressure and vacuum systems
  • Hands-on experience in gas handling, vacuum systems, pressure systems and/or piping systems is highly desirable.
