General Manager (Business Management)
About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished and commercially driven General Manager (Business Management) to spearhead business growth and strategic expansion across Southeast Asia and Greater China.
This executive leadership role is responsible for identifying new market opportunities, driving revenue growth, establishing strategic partnerships, and leading regional expansion initiatives. The successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening the company's market presence while developing sustainable growth strategies across multiple jurisdictions.
Reporting directly to the Executive Board, the General Manager will oversee business development, market expansion, strategic partnerships, operational performance, and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Market Expansion & Business Growth
- Lead the strategic expansion of the company's business operations across Southeast Asia and China markets.
- Identify, evaluate, and execute new market entry opportunities, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and business alliances.
- Develop and implement comprehensive business growth strategies to increase market share and revenue generation.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, government agencies, industry associations, investors, and corporate partners.
- Drive customer acquisition initiatives and build high-value commercial partnerships across target markets.
- Conduct market intelligence analysis, competitor assessments, and industry trend evaluations to support business decision-making.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute long-term business strategies aligned with corporate objectives and regional growth plans.
- Lead cross-functional teams to achieve commercial, operational, and financial targets.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the Executive Board on expansion opportunities, investment priorities, and business risks.
- Ensure effective governance, compliance, and risk management practices across all business activities.
Financial & Operational Management
- Assume full Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability for assigned markets and business units.
- Drive operational excellence, scalability, and sustainable profitability.
- Establish performance metrics and reporting frameworks to monitor business growth and operational effectiveness.
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation to maximize return on investment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Marketing, International Business, or related disciplines is highly preferred.
- MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is highly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in business management, business development, market expansion, or regional operations.
- Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale business growth and market expansion initiatives.
- Extensive experience in developing and executing market entry strategies within China and Southeast Asia.
- Strong network of business contacts, strategic partners, industry stakeholders, and commercial relationships within the China market.
- Demonstrated experience independently leading and delivering successful China market expansion projects, including market entry, business development, partnership formation, and commercial execution.
- Deep understanding of China's business environment, regulatory landscape, commercial culture, and cross-border business operations.
- Experience working with multinational corporations, regional enterprises, government-linked organizations, or high-growth businesses is highly advantageous.
- Strong commercial acumen with proven P&L management experience.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural, and international business environment.
- Fluency in English is required; Mandarin proficiency is highly preferred to support business development activities in China and Chinese-speaking markets.
- Willing and able to undertake long-term overseas assignments as required by business needs.
- Must be available to work beyond standard business hours, including weekends and public holidays, when required to support business operations, client engagements, and regional market development activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Established executive-level network across China's corporate, investment, technology, manufacturing, trading, or industrial sectors.
- Prior experience overseeing regional operations across ASEAN markets.
- Experience in cross-border investments, international partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, or strategic alliances.
- Strong understanding of both emerging and mature markets within Asia-Pacific.
