Geotechnical Laboratory Professional

Job Description

Overview

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Professional in the field of geotechnical engineering. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills and join our geotechnical team in Quebec. Based in Boucherville, Quebec, this role involves supporting a variety of projects in the infrastructure, transportation, energy, urban development, and mining sectors. The selected candidate will play a key role in performing and overseeing high-quality, reliable laboratory testing on complex materials to support advanced geotechnical analyses and designs.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced laboratory professional who is committed to technical excellence, understands the importance of sample quality and test integrity, and is motivated to work on challenging projects within a collaborative and industry-leading geotechnical team.

Your role

  • Perform, process data from, and supervise advanced, highly complex geotechnical laboratory tests in accordance with applicable standards (e.g., ASTM, BNQ, AASHTO, and others).
  • Implement and manage a wide range of advanced testing programs, including various types of triaxial tests, direct shear tests, cyclic direct simple shear (CDSS) tests, consolidation tests, and different types of permeability tests.
  • Lead project-level planning and resource allocation management for geotechnical laboratory work, including test sequencing, resource assignment, scheduling, and coordination with project managers and geotechnical engineers.
  • Operate automated laboratory equipment with a high degree of proficiency; maintain knowledge of manual testing equipment and procedures to support verification, troubleshooting, and non-routine testing activities.
  • Achieve the company’s operational and financial performance objectives.
  • Implement and support calibration programs, quality control metrics, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures, ensuring data integrity, repeatability, validity, and compliance with internal and external audit requirements.

About you

  • Diploma or advanced degree from a recognized technical or engineering program (e.g., civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or materials technology), or a bachelor's degree in science or engineering; a degree in civil or geotechnical engineering is considered a significant asset.
  • 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a geotechnical engineering laboratory, with demonstrated responsibilities in conducting advanced and highly complex testing.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with both standard and advanced laboratory testing, including soil strength, deformation, and permeability testing.
  • Strong proficiency with automated testing systems, combined with practical knowledge of manual laboratory equipment, sample preparation, and fundamental testing principles.
  • Solid understanding of calibration principles, quality control metrics, and laboratory QA/QC systems, with a strong focus on data quality, traceability, and technical validity.
