GIS Consultant - Geotechnical Engineering

As a Consultant – GIS, Geospatial & Remote Sensing consultant with background in Engineering Geology & part of the NZGCC team in WSP India, you will be responsible for meeting the needs of clients through the provision of geospatial technical expertise and consultancy services. You will add value to the Geotech team, and the wider WSP NZ business through delivery of high performing projects.
You will work under the guidance and leadership as part of a group of Geotechnical Engineers on multiple significant projects to deliver quality and maintain high technical standards. The ideal candidate for this role would be from a Civil/Geology/GIS/RS background with atleast, 4+ yrs. professional experience in GIS processing & Geospatial data management.

• Maintain knowledge of appropriate technical standards, legislation, codes of practice and New Zealand standards.
• Gather spatial data for a variety of resilience and other projects, construct and manage database, analyse data to provide the required outputs.
• Use programming to generate the required spatial outputs and where necessary present data through web portals.
• Produce spatial maps using best practice cartography
• Track industry trends and best practice and standards in GIS
• Communicate across functionally diverse groups at all levels of managerial and technical domains within a global organization.

Key Competencies
Mandatory Skills
• Strong capability across multiple remote sensing and GIS related tasks like InSAR Analysis, ArcGIS Web App developments, Survey123, StoryMaps, Remote Sensing Analysis etc
• Strong capability in digitising and capturing data using ArcGIS or qGIS and ability to work with different ESRI suite of software as well as qGIS.
• Familiar with python scripting.
• Good cartographic skills in displaying information.
• Familiar in working with 3-dimensional data and producing 3D maps and models.
• Aptitude for working across different platforms and spatial formats.
• Proficient in data management skills.
• Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, including oral and written communication and particularly the ability to present ideas, information and advice in a way that is understandable by a range of audiences.
• Computer literate; proficient in Windows 7 or later, MS Word/Excel and other Microsoft Office applications; Arc GIS.

Desired Skills
• Proficient in using Auto CAD.
• Experience across a range of projects in the transport & civil infrastructure domain.
• Geohazards and/or climate data experience
• Experience with quantitative risk assessment
• Appetite to build knowledge in relevant NZ design codes, standards, legislation and practices.
• Ability to apply best health & safety practices & behaviour to offer sound engineering design & construction solutions; ability to leverage appropriate problem-solving techniques and analysis.

• Minimum: Graduate Degree holder in GIS / Geology / Civil Engineering or related discipline. Preferred, Masters in Geospatial / Remote Sensing / Engineering Geology
• Min. 4 years of post qualification Professional Experience in geospatial data management & hazard mapping.
