Global Corporate Banking, Head of Subsidiary Banking, Malaysia & Regional Coverage Banker (Malaysia)

This role leads the Malaysia Subsidiary Banking franchise and serves as a senior regional coverage banker for multinational corporates with operations in Malaysia. The mandate is to drive disciplined origination, deepen client relationships, and deliver coordinated multi-product solutions across cash management, liquidity, trade, markets, credit, and capital markets. Success requires strong portfolio and pipeline governance, effective matrix leadership across local and HQ/RHQ stakeholders, and rigorous risk and control execution across KYC/AML, sanctions, and reputation risk. The position is designed for a senior corporate banking professional with a track record in complex multi-country, multi-product delivery and high standards of client stewardship.

The Head of Subsidiary Banking, Malaysia & Regional Coverage Banker is accountable for building and expanding relationships with multinational subsidiaries in Malaysia, setting coverage strategy and execution cadence, and leading end-to-end solutioning across J.P. Morgan’s corporate banking and markets capabilities. The role partners closely with local and HQ/RHQ coverage teams and product specialists to capture wallet share, deliver high-quality onboarding and service, and ensure risk-aligned growth through a strong control environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Malaysia Subsidiary Banking franchise, setting country coverage strategy, client prioritization, and execution standards to deliver sustainable revenue and risk-adjusted returns.

  • Act as senior regional coverage banker for selected multinational relationships, coordinating local-to-regional connectivity and aligning country plans with global relationship strategy.

  • Originate and expand senior-level client dialogue at HQ, RHQ, and local subsidiary levels, converting engagement into actionable pipelines and relationship plans.

  • Own portfolio and pipeline governance, including forward-looking client business plans, prioritized calling, opportunity qualification, and disciplined follow-through to closure.

  • Deliver comprehensive client analysis to identify needs addressable through J.P. Morgan’s product suite, including cash management, liquidity, trade, escrow, derivatives, capital markets, credit, risk management, and asset management.

  • Convert client insights into concrete financial solutions, coordinating product partners to structure and execute tailored outcomes across multi-product opportunities.

  • Lead complex deal execution end-to-end, ensuring effective coordination across product, credit, legal, operations, and implementation teams, with clear accountability for timelines and client expectations.

  • Drive Payments and liquidity outcomes, including digital channel adoption and operating model alignment with multinational treasury needs.

  • Establish a regular cross-functional review cadence (local and regional) to ensure coordinated relationship management, cross-sell progress, and issue escalation with clear ownership.

  • Engage proactively on the Malaysia regulatory environment and market developments, translating changes into client guidance, coverage actions, and control-aligned product delivery.

  • Lead, coach, and develop the local and matrix coverage team, setting expectations on client planning, solution discipline, and risk culture, and strengthening the talent pipeline.

  • Shape and track Malaysia sector and corridor initiatives, partnering with regional leadership to deliver measurable progress against strategic priorities.

  • Maintain a strong Risk & Control framework with ongoing focus on adherence to KYC, AML, reputation risk, and other applicable standards, ensuring consistent execution quality across the portfolio.

  • Ensure robust onboarding and periodic review discipline, including accurate client due diligence, beneficial ownership validation, and governance of client documentation and approvals.

  • Apply heightened scrutiny to third-party monies practices and intercompany flows, ensuring appropriate due diligence, controls, and monitoring are implemented and sustained.

  • Partner closely with Compliance, Financial Crime, Credit Risk, and Operations to identify, escalate, and resolve material client issues in a timely and well-documented manner.

  • Ensure sanctions and AML risk considerations are integrated into product solutioning, transaction structures, and ongoing client servicing, with clear escalation pathways where required.

Required Qualifications and Skillsets:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in corporate banking or related client-facing roles.

  • Strong command of transaction services, markets, regulatory environment, credit, and trade finance, with the ability to integrate these into cohesive client solutions.

  • Proven ability to build and develop senior client relationships, including origination, negotiation, and long-term relationship stewardship.

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-product and multi-country opportunities with multiple stakeholders and tight execution timelines.

  • Strong knowledge of Payments, including cash management, liquidity solutions, and digital channels, and ability to translate capability into client outcomes.

  • Experience covering Innovation Economy client profiles and applying appropriate due diligence and third-party funds practices.

  • Strong analytical capability and creativity in solution design, grounded in commercial discipline and risk appetite alignment.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to influence across senior internal stakeholders and client leadership teams.

  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple transactions concurrently while maintaining delivery against deadlines, client expectations, and business priorities.

Preferred Qualifications and Skillsets:

  • Prior experience leading a country or franchise portfolio, including client prioritization, governance cadence, and accountability for business outcomes (per prior assistant add-on bullets).

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating with HQ/RHQ coverage teams and operating effectively within a matrixed global organization.

  • Strong familiarity with multinational subsidiary treasury operating models, including cross-border liquidity, cash concentration, and intercompany flow considerations.

  • Track record of effective partnership with Risk, Compliance, and Credit stakeholders in a high-control environment, including escalation and remediation leadership.

  • People leadership experience (direct and/or matrix), including coaching, performance management, and talent development.
