Government Information Specialist

This position is part of the Department of Energy's Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence. As a Government Information Specialist, you will serve as the primary Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer, handle requests for intake, consultations, ensure proper disposition of records, and release of classified information related to sensitive intelligence functions.

This is an Excepted Service position. This appointment will not confer Competitive Service career-conditional or career tenure status. This means that if you are selected, you would have to compete with other applicants in open competition to meet requirements for another Federal position, unless you meet the requirements for reinstatement. Applicants who voluntarily convert from the competitive service, Senior Executive Service, or other pay systems to a non-time limited appointment under this excepted service authority are not afforded "fallback rights" to the pay system previously assigned prior to conversion. As a full performance GS-14 Government Information Specialist, you will: Act as Lead FOIA officer and oversee work related to the release of information for classified intelligence functions. Disseminate and manage classified information according to federal laws. Interpret and apply laws (e.g., FOIA, Privacy Act) to manage information access and disclosure. Facilitate the collection and review of records, ensure proper disposition and coordinate the destruction and transfer process. Implement FOIA policies, procedures, and guidelines consistent with DOE and Intelligence Community (IC) standards to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Maintain FOIA case tracking, analyze requests, apply classification principles and draft responses for high-profile or legally complex cases.
