Graduate Assistant - Athletic Communications

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Graduate Assistant for Athletic Communications. This position will assist with all aspects of athletic communications for UPIKE Athletics, including maintaining and updating athletics website content, supporting athletic publications, managing game statistics, promoting athletic programs, and assisting with media relations and event coverage.


The Graduate Assistant will work closely with the athletics staff to help highlight student-athletes, teams, and departmental achievements while supporting the overall communications and promotional efforts of UPIKE Athletics.


Responsibilities:

  • Maintains athletics website with accurate and up-to-date content.
  • Covers determined number of primary sports in all aspects.
  • Social media content creation, primarily for Instagram.
  • Maintains student-athlete and staff bio information.
  • Communicates with internal staff and external constituents daily.
  • Creates and publishes video and/or graphic content for social media platforms.
  • Assists in game day preparation and execution.
  • Shows willingness to begin with small tasks, leading to more significant responsibilities.
  • Represents the university to external constituents.
  • Fosters a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Organizes photo galleries and utilizes Photoshop when necessary.
  • Updates sports records.
  • Creates and publishes video and/or graphic content for social media platforms.
  • Exhibits flexibility and willingness to use innovative approaches.


Relationships:
Position requires daily contact with sports information director, coaches, supervisor, athletes, parents, alumni, various campus departments, and the general public in order to communicate information about the athletics department. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.


Qualifications - Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Background and understanding in Adobe Creative Cloud including graphic design, video editing, and document layout.
  • Experience in college athletics environment communicating with student-athletes and coaches.
  • Working knowledge of sports photography techniques and best practices.


** Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing, and a meal plan. However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
