Grants Intern
UMAMI BIOWORKS is looking for a curious, detail\-oriented Grants Intern to support our grant function as we scale. This is a hands\-on role where you'll work directly with our grants team, getting real exposure to the full grants process \u2014 from researching opportunities to supporting drafting of proposals. It's an ideal role for someone early in their career who wants to develop a strong foundation in grant writing, science communication, and project coordination within an ambitious food tech company.

Key Responsibilities<\/b>

- Grant Research & Landscape Mapping Monitor and research global grant opportunities. Summarise key eligibility criteria, deadlines, and strategic fit to help prioritize the pipeline.<\/span>
<\/li>- Proposal Support Assist in drafting and editing sections of grant proposals \u2014 including background research, literature reviews, and supporting narratives. Help ensure proposals are accurate, well\-structured, and submitted on time.
<\/li>- Science & Market Research Conduct desk research to support proposals \u2014 mapping the competitive landscape, identifying relevant data, and summarising current developments in cultivated seafood and adjacent fields.
<\/li>- Post\-Award Administration Support grant record\-keeping, track reporting deadlines, and help prepare progress updates and compliance documentation for active awards.
<\/li>- Stakeholder & Partner Research Maintain a list of potential academic and industry collaborators that could strengthen future grant applications.

What We're Looking For

<\/div>Experience & Qualifications<\/b>

<\/div>- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in a relevant field \u2014 biology, chemistry, engineering, business, science communication, or similar
<\/span><\/li>- Some exposure to scientific or technical writing (coursework, research projects, or prior experience) is beneficial
<\/span><\/li>- Familiarity with grant processes or research funding is a bonus, but not required \u2014 we'll teach you<\/span>

<\/div>- Strong written communication \u2014 You write clearly and concisely, and you're willing to redraft until it's right.
<\/span><\/li>- Research skills \u2014 Comfortable conducting desk research, synthesising information from multiple sources, and presenting findings in a structured way.
<\/span><\/li>- Attention to detail \u2014 Accurate, thorough, and careful \u2014 especially when working with deadlines, eligibility requirements, and compliance documents.
<\/span><\/li>- Collaborative \u2014 A team player who communicates well and is comfortable asking questions.
