Hazardous Waste Technician
Your Key Responsibilities
- Provide environmental compliance and hazardous waste handling services as directed IAW Air Force Instruction, local HW Management Plan, and federal and state regulations
- Pick-up, delivery, and transportation of Heavy Hazardous Waste Drums to/from designated sites in all weather conditions
- Use a drum dolly to move containerized waste
- Operate a forklift, gasoline powered pump, pressure washer, and flatbed pickup
- Conduct both visual and documented inspections of all containers at Waste Facility
- Take samples of waste for chemical analysis
- Conduct inventories and audits
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Essential Job Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) and other credentials, as required.
- High School Diploma required
- The ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
- Must pass a medical fitness exam and respirator fit test.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects weighing up to 75 lbs. and stand for up to 2 hours at a time.
- Ability to don and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Basic understanding of hazardous materials and SDS (Safety Data Sheets).
- Must have or be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license w/ H class endorsement.
- Computer skills, to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Forklift experience desirable; must pass forklift operator skills evaluation
Additional Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Enterprise Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Management Information System – Hazardous Waste Module (EESOH-MIS HW)
- Experience in management and handling of hazardous waste
- Knowledge of RCRA, OSHA, and DOT regulations
- Ability to analyze and interpret basic chemical analysis results and QC
- 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate
- Experience working at military installations and industrial operations
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) w/ H class endorsement
