Head of Global Social Media

WD is seeking a strategic, data-driven Head of Global Social Media to own the company’s worldwide social media strategy and execution - spanning brand awareness and executive thought leadership through account-based marketing and customer engagement. This role is a key steward of WD’s brand voice and visual identity across every social channel, ensuring consistency while advancing brand recognition globally.

This is a unique opportunity to build and scale WD's global social media function during a period of significant brand transformation and AI market leadership. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future direction of the function and grow into broader leadership responsibilities over time.

This role leads a team of social media managers and partners closely with Corporate Marketing, Product Marketing, Digital Marketing, Executive Communications, PR/AR, and Regional Marketing teams to drive integrated programs that build brand visibility, amplify executive voices, and support business growth across global platforms.

We're looking for a builder, not someone to manage an existing program, but someone excited to shape the next generation of WD's global social media strategy, team, and capabilities.

This leader will help define how WD is represented in the market, ensuring every social interaction strengthens our corporate narrative, amplifies executive thought leadership, and reinforces our position as the storage foundation of the AI-driven data economy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of several social media managers across platforms and/or regions
  • Set clear priorities, allocate workload, and build team capability to execute against the global social strategy
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture aligned to brand and business goals

Strategy & Content

  • Define and own the long-term vision for WD's social media presence (with deep focus on LinkedIn and YouTube), ensuring every program reinforces the company's corporate narrative, brand positioning, and business priorities.
  • Build programs spanning the full funnel: awareness, thought leadership, executive visibility, and product marketing
  • Guide the team’s development of social-first content (executive thought leadership, video, campaign assets, customer stories, event coverage) in partnership with content, creative, and comms teams
  • Drive innovation in AI-powered content creation, workflow automation, and performance optimization to enable faster, smarter, and more scalable global content production.

Brand Stewardship

  • Serve as the global gatekeeper for brand standards across all social channels — voice, tone, visual identity, and messaging consistency
  • Ensure that every social activation reinforces WD's long-term corporate narrative, connecting product launches, executive communications, customer stories, partnerships, and events into a cohesive market story.
  • Partner with Brand and Creative teams to ensure every asset reinforces WD’s brand guidelines, even as content scales across regions and platforms
  • Drive measurable growth in brand recognition and share of voice within key technology and AI infrastructure conversations
  • Train and guide the team, regional partners, and agencies on brand standards to maintain consistency at scale

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as the central social lead across integrated marketing campaigns, translating objectives into activation plans
  • Partner with PR and Corporate Communications to support reputation management, executive visibility, and rapid response communications across social platforms.
  • Partner with Executive Communications and Corporate Communications to build distinctive executive thought leadership platforms, translating business strategy into compelling social narratives that increase executive visibility and corporate reputation.

Planning & Governance

  • Own the global editorial calendar and publishing governance
  • Coordinate with regional agencies on localization, translation, and country-specific channels

Analytics & Optimization

  • Define KPI frameworks connecting social performance to business outcomes (follower growth, engagement, share of voice, brand recognition)
  • Deliver executive-level reporting using tools like Sprout Social, Meltwater, and LinkedIn Campaign Manager
  • Leverage social listening and competitive intelligence to identify emerging market conversations, executive opportunities, competitive positioning shifts, and thought leadership trends that inform broader marketing and communications strategy.

Budget & Vendor Management

  • Manage global social budgets and agency relationships across paid and organic initiatives

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field
  • 8–12+ years in social media, digital marketing, or brand marketing; 5+ years leading global programs and managing teams, ideally in tech, SaaS, hardware, or B2B
  • Proven people management experience, with a track record of developing and growing social media talent
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and advise senior executives, balancing strategic counsel with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, global organization.
  • Demonstrated experience enforcing brand guidelines at scale across global teams and channels
  • Deep platform expertise (LinkedIn, YouTube, X, Instagram) and fluency in campaign management and ABM strategy
  • Proficiency with social management/analytics tools (Sprout Social, Meltwater, Google Analytics)
  • Hands-on familiarity with AI-powered content creation and editing tools
  • Strong content production, analytical, and executive stakeholder skills
  • Up to 30% travel for corporate events and trade shows, including major industry events (e.g., COMPUTEX)

What Success Looks Like

  • WD is recognized as one of the leading voices in AI infrastructure and enterprise storage across global social platforms.
  • Executive thought leadership meaningfully increases the visibility and influence of WD's leadership team.
  • Social becomes a strategic driver of brand reputation, market engagement, and integrated campaigns - not simply a publishing channel.
  • The team establishes scalable global processes that enable consistent, high-quality execution across regions.
  • Data-driven insights from social influence broader marketing, communications, and business strategy.
