Head of Market Data
You will lead the acquisition, governance, and optimization of market data across crypto and traditional venues. You will design low-latency data architectures, oversee real-time ingestion and normalization, manage vendor relationships and contracts, and partner with engineering to build resilient data pipelines. You will implement monitoring, entitlement controls, and cost controls while supporting trading, research, and risk needs.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute a unified market data strategy
- Design scalable low-latency data architecture supporting tick-level order book and on-chain data
- Evaluate build versus buy decisions for data platforms
- Manage vendor relationships with exchanges data aggregators and node providers
- Negotiate vendor contracts licensing and exchange agreements
- Ensure data quality normalization and symbol mapping
- Oversee ingestion of real-time order book data trades reference data funding rates and on-chain metrics
- Establish monitoring and alerting frameworks for data integrity and completeness
- Manage and optimize the global market data budget and implement usage tracking
- Identify cost-saving opportunities including vendor consolidation and direct exchange connectivity
- Partner with engineering to build and maintain data pipelines feed handlers and distribution systems
- Support hybrid infrastructure resilience redundancy and scalability
- Ensure regulatory compliance implement entitlement controls audit trails and governance policies
- Collaborate with trading quant research risk and portfolio teams to deliver data solutions
- Build and lead a multidisciplinary team and establish data onboarding validation and lifecycle best practices
- Leverage AI tools and automation to improve productivity and decision-making
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in market data management within a trading firm hedge fund or financial institution
- Deep knowledge of market data vendors exchanges and licensing models
- Strong understanding of trading workflows asset classes and data types including real-time reference and historical data
- Proven experience negotiating vendor contracts and managing large budgets
- Experience with low-latency data systems market data feeds APIs and streaming technologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills for engaging technical and business stakeholders
- Familiarity with on-chain data blockchain nodes and crypto data providers (preferred)
