Head Start Teacher

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Meet the needs of all children, including those with special needs,\nthose who are gifted and those who are culturally diverse.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Integrate all Head Start service areas into classroom time.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Develop and utilize lesson plans, which reflect mandated elements,\nparental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical,\nand cognitive development of Head Start children.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Implement ongoing early child/family literacy activities.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Individualize one\-to\-one and group activities to reflect the unique\nneeds and strengths of all children in the classroom. Observe and record\nbehaviors of children to assist in this process.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Follow a consistent schedule, which includes small and large group\nexperiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities,\nskill development, meals, and effective transitions between activities.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation,\nsocialization, and choice making, ask open\-ended questions and listen\nrespectfully to the answers.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement\nin the classroom.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Conduct ongoing assessments for children and record data using the\nCreative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold web\-based assessment tool.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Work with appropriate agencies in developing specialized planning for\nchildren/families, as needed.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Supervise and monitor children at all times. <\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Respond to crisis or emergency situations that may occur and provide\nfirst aid or CPR. Prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens, and access\nemergency services as needed.<\/span>
<\/p>

Written Documentation (20%)<\/span><\/b>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Maintain accurate written records; including assessments, special\neducation documentation, screening instruments, anecdotal observations,\ndocuments for transition to public school and parent/teacher conference, home\nvisits and other required forms.<\/span>
<\/p>

Collaborative Service Delivery/Home Visits (15%)<\/span><\/b>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Provide classroom supervision and effective communication for teacher\nassistants and all volunteers. <\/span>Ensure\nteamwork with teacher assistant and others assigned to the class.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings to plan for and deliver\ncollaborative services across all service areas. <\/span>To include working with the Transportation\nService Area to ensure children's safety to and from Head Start centers.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Meet regularly with parents, and other staff regarding each child's\nstatus and progress.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Conduct regular home visits and parent/teacher conferences for purposes\nof assessment and support, and to share information on classroom progress,\neducational strategies and parenting.<\/span>
<\/p>

Curriculum Development (20%)<\/span><\/b>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Assess individual and group needs, attending to special needs, specific\ninterests, strengths and concerns.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>With parental involvement, develop balanced lesson plans, which are\ndevelopmentally appropriate, intellectually challenging and address each\nchild's specific strengths and needs.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Establish daily and weekly goals, which will promote individual and\ngroup educational plans and include other Head Start service areas.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Prepare classroom materials to support lesson plans and change and\ncreate learning centers as needed.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for children as\nidentified in their individualized plans.<\/span>
<\/p>

Miscellaneous (5%)<\/span><\/b>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Attend meetings, trainings, and appropriate professional development\nactivities.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Assure general classroom maintenance/sanitization, laundry and security\nof facility where applicable.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Maintain an inventory of classroom equipment.<\/span>
<\/p>

· <\/span><\/span><\/span>Other duties as requested.<\/span>

Requirements<\/h3>
\u2022\tStrong knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and the needs of children:
<\/div>
\u2022\tMinimum educational requirement of a bachelor\u2019s degree in early childhood education or bachelors in a related field that includes classes focusing on early childhood education/development. Note: An associate degree in early childhood education will be accepted; on the condition the employee is already enrolled or enrolls in a bachelor\u2019s degree (ECE) program, which will be mandatory, to maintain teacher status. Failure to work towards a bachelor\u2019s degree will result in the relinquishment of said position.
<\/div>
\u2022\tDiploma/transcripts will be required to validate early childhood education degree or transcripts to validate related classes if bachelor's degree is in a related field.
<\/div>
\u2022\tPrefer two years\u2019 experience in preschool classroom with ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all children including special needs, gifted, and culturally diverse populations.
<\/div>
\u2022\tAbility to apply early childhood development theory in daily classroom activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children.
<\/div>
\u2022\tExcellent communication skills, especially good listening and writing skills.
<\/div>
\u2022\tIf a licensed driver, employee must have a valid Virginia Driver's License and proof of current auto insurance where applicable.
<\/div>
\u2022\tEmployment is conditional pending immediate enrollment in Child Care Division \- Criminal History Registry.
<\/div>
\u2022\tMust present current TB/Physical at the time of employment or within 10 working days for TB test and 30 days for physical.
