Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Men’s Volleyball Coach manages and oversees the Men’s Volleyball program’s operational systems, processes, and policies, supports recruiting and retention, and contributes to business process improvement and organizational planning.
Job Description:
Administers, manages, and leads the Men’s Volleyball Program in a manner that reflects positively on the image and reputation of the University at all times, in accordance with the University’s mission.
Organizes and conducts all Men’s Volleyball practice sessions; teaches the mechanics and techniques to the Men’s Volleyball players; and ensures that steps are taken to reduce the risks of injury.
Develops and disseminates rules related to the expected conduct of Men’s Volleyball players when they are representing Gallaudet University, both on and off campus.
Develops Men’s Volleyball program event schedules and manages the program budget; contacts Division III colleges and universities to coordinate the varsity sports calendar; arranges transportation, meals, lodging, etc., for officials; and confirms schedules with all related parties.
Serves as an advocate of issues important to female and male student-athletes, coaches and staff, serves as a role model and resource for students, coaches and administrator, recruits and hires of key department and/or institutional personnel, monitors implementation of gender-equity plan, reviewer of the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act Report.
Conducts the hiring of and supervision of student workers; monitors and coordinates the processing of personnel actions; and assures that personnel actions are in compliance with policy and procedural guidelines and with administrative deadlines.
Monitors the programs to ensure compliance to NCAA and Title IX policies; oversees gender equity aspects; assists with ensuring that all programs adhere to NCAA, UEC, and ECFC guidelines and procedures; and communicates concerns or issues regarding such to the Director.
Assumes the responsibility for the program’s budget and supports the Director with maintaining budget records to aid in budget control.
Manages in scheduling contests and logistics management for the program to meet with the UEC and NCAA expectations.
Maintains and supports the integrity of Gallaudet University and athletic programs which student-athletes represent.
Monitors, enforces, observes, communicates and supports the University’s academic standards, requirements and policies, including working with Admissions, Financial Aid, and other academic and support services offices.
Works with the Sports Information team regarding development of and reporting of information related to team roster, schedule, and results from the previous year and current season outlook.
Monitors and ensures institutional compliance with policies and procedures of the NCAA and UEC in all aspects surrounding the coaching of a team and actions as a member of the Athletics Department.
Abides by NCAA and NEAC rules as they apply to training teams and individuals-in season and during the summer.
Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
Demonstrates a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
A minimum of four years of professional experience with coaching, athletics management, or related fields.
Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Experience working in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience with computer software programs and database management.
Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.
Additional Job Details:
This is a one-year extended temporary staff position with some benefits including health insurance, paid vacation and sick time, and paid holidays.
The extended temporary appointment may be renewed for another year or has an opportunity to convert to regular status with full benefits.
