Health & Fitness Center Attendant

Job Summary:

The Health & Fitness Center Attendant will provide support for the Mukwa Health & Fitness Center including assisting clients to familiarize them with the area, equipment, and policies and procedures. The Health & Fitness Center Attendant will meet academic and professional qualifications, work with discretion and confidentiality, demonstrate dedication to academic excellence and student-centered education, and will support the mission and objectives of Bay Mills Community College.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist guests with services and enrollment.
  • Perform basic office duties such as answering and directing telephone calls, assisting guests, correspondence, and maintaining both electronic and physical files.
  • Learn and uphold the policies and procedures of the Mukwa Health & Fitness Center.
  • Assist with program planning and implementation including assistance with set-up and clean-up of activities.
  • Complete light equipment management and cleaning duties.
  • Attend any mandatory trainings by the supervisor and Human Resources Department.
  • Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of the position description.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required to provide the highest level of guest service.
  • Strong computer application skills to include Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to learn basic office equipment.
  • Respect for confidentiality of all information received.
  • Demonstrated personal integrity, sound judgement, and dependability.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while representing BMCC.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have the ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others, college and departmental committee experience preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
  • Knowledge or experience in working with Native Americans, in an education setting preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit with occasional walking and standing.
  • This position requires the employee to have full motor movements.
  • The ability to lift 50 pounds, and work with others to lift and/or move equipment in excess of 200 pounds or more to ensure the highest level of safety for the employee and the fitness center guests.
  • Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
