This position may be filled using Direct Hire Authority: Z5CAV/Direct-Hire Authority (Certain DoD Personnel) PL 118-31, Sec 125OB (i)(2), 12/22/2023.This position is being filled under the memorandum from the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD(P&R)) "Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense," dated August 12,2024.

As a Health Physicist at the GS-1306-14 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as the lead subject matter expert to develop, revise, and implement the Defense Threat Reduction Agency's Radiation Safety Program. Interprets Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Department of Transportation, and Department of Defense regulations to create tailored standards, champion concepts to keep exposure "as low as reasonably achievable," and establish radiological contingency protocols. Provides senior-level consultation on complex nuclear materials and radiation-producing equipment. Evaluates plans for hazardous operations, briefs senior leadership (including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Department of Defense), and drafts technical reports regarding radiological conditions affecting global missions. Conducts facility inspections and audits, with the authority to terminate unsafe operations. Administers dosimetry and bioassay programs, investigates unexpected exposures, and designs and delivers innovative radiation safety training across the agency.
