Overview
The Safety Specialist is responsible for preventing workplace accidents and promoting health and safety awareness across the organization. This role ensures compliance with OSHA and other federal, state, local, and industry-specific safety regulations while supporting continuous improvement in safety performance within a manufacturing environment.
The Safety Specialist partners with management and employees to implement safety programs, conduct audits, deliver training, and drive proactive accident prevention initiatives. This individual plays a key role in identifying hazards, reducing risk, and fostering a culture of safety.
Responsibilities
Safety Compliance & Programs
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable regulatory requirements
- Conduct periodic safety audits to evaluate compliance and program effectiveness
- Update, maintain, and improve safety programs, procedures, and practices
- Support ISO 45001 implementation and ongoing system maintenance
- Identify hazards and implement controls to minimize or eliminate employee exposure
Accident Prevention & Risk Management
- Lead or support incident investigations utilizing root cause analysis
- Recommend corrective actions and assist with implementation upon approval
- Identify workplace hazards and improve unsafe conditions proactively
- Act quickly and safely in response to incidents or emergency situations
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on risk reduction
Safety Initiatives & Key Focus Areas
- Support New Hire injury prevention programs, including observations and engagement
- Drive Hand & Finger injury prevention efforts
- Coordinate and support Safety Board activities
- Participate actively in Safety Committee meetings, providing guidance and resources
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in safety performance
Training & Development
- Conduct safety training programs across various shifts, including:
- New Hire Safety Training (backup to Training Coordinator)
- Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO)
- Confined Space Entry
- Material Handling
- Machine Guarding
- Train and mentor new Safety Technicians
- Promote employee awareness through ongoing safety education
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to supervisors and employees
- Partner with front-line management to reinforce safety expectations
- Provide guidance and support to employees regarding safe work practices
- Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team on initiatives and reporting
Operational & Administrative Support
- Maintain safety records, audit documentation, and training logs
- Support EHS team with technical and administrative tasks as needed
- Ensure adherence to hygiene, housekeeping, and safety standards
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Management

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management or a related field or equivalent demonstrated safety experience in a manufacturing environment
- Minimum of 3–5 years of safety experience in a manufacturing setting
- Professional certification preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and workplace safety regulations
- Experience with safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 standards preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis
- Effective communication and training skills
- Ability to influence and engage employees at all levels of the organization
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Must be willing to work flexible hours and support multiple shifts
- Ability to work mandatory overtime as needed
- Regular attendance is required
Work Environment
- Exposure to manufacturing conditions including noise, equipment, and industrial processes
- Frequent interaction with employees and supervisors on the plant floor
