Please note that this is a singular role, you will be required to undertake both Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) and Teaching Assistant (TA) responsibilities due to the cover requirements of the school.

Capel St Mary CEVC Primary School are seeking to appoint a motivated, passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work with our committed, forward-thinking team to support pupils’ learning. The role will require creativity, flexibility and a good understanding of how to meet pupils’ needs. This appointment is to cover a member of staff who is taking on another role for one year. An HLTA qualification is a requirement of the role.

The TA role will involve a mixture of in-class, one-to-one and small group work with pupils with different needs. The HLTA role will involve leading learning for a whole class to cover teachers’ planning, preparation and assessment time and other planned release. As an HLTA, you may also be required to cover classes as necessary due to absence.

A caring nature and ability to work with children is essential. Experience of working with pupils with special educational and behavioural needs would be beneficial.

  • be flexible and able to use your initiative in supporting pupils’ learning

  • understand childhood development and special educational needs
  • understand child protection and safeguarding

  • promote the school’s vision and values
  • have good English and maths skills (GCSE or equivalent qualifications).
