o The SHC Histotechnician collaborates with general histology and specialized histology for the histology specimens generated for all Anatomic Pathology services. Our HT’s partner closely with their operational leaders and with Stanford Pathology faculty to ensure high quality and timely diagnoses for our patients. We are looking for candidates who are compassionate, operationally experienced, highly motivated, and can communicate effectively with both their colleagues and with faculty.

A Brief Overview
Embeds and cuts a wide variety of surgical and research tissue, including autopsy specimens, tiny biopsies, lymph nodes, breast tissue and bone marrow. Sections paraffin embedded tissue at 1-7 microns and mounts on microscope slides. Performs a variety of staining techniques for microscopic evaluation.

What you will do
- Cut high quality 1-4 micron sections of small and difficult biopsy specimens.
- Able to cut 50-75 blocks per day while maintaining a high quality product.
- Perform routine H&E stains as well as routine special stains.
- Able to organize and prioritize specimens and tasks to produce a high quality product in an efficient and timely manner.
- Perform quality control on sections and staining procedures to ensure a high quality finished product.
- Able to work overtime and cover other shifts as warranted by the department.
- Able to work in a fast paced, high volume laboratory.
- Must comply with all applicable health and safety policies.
- Must be able to prioritize and successfully multitask.
- Participate in a positive manner in all department meetings.
- Participate in the rotation as department safety officer.
- Other work related duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Experience Qualifications
- One (1) year of progressively responsible directly related work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability operate and maintain medical equipment and apparatuses

- Knowledge of methods of fixing, cutting, and embedding tissue sections
- Knowledge of staining procedures and mounting sections for microscopic examination
Licenses and Certifications
- HTL-ASCP Histotechnologist Certf-ASCP required within 1 1/2 Yrs or
- HTN-ASCP Histotechnician Certf-ASCP required within 1 1/2 Yrs

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $48.38 - $54.48 per hourThe salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
