DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

At Goodwill SWPA, we have transformed our Human Resources Department into People Services, reflecting our mission to help others through a People-First culture lens. People Services supports the actualization of Goodwill SWPA's mission by ensuring agency wide compliance with regulations our work is beholden to, at Federal, State, Local, and specific contractual levels. People Services serves as a vital resource for all agency supervisors and employees in the areas of benefits, training, recruiting, performance management, employee relations, and concerns and questions staff may have during the course of their employment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting and administering a wide range of human resources functions, including employee relations, recruitment and onboarding support, benefits support, performance management, policy implementation and interpretation, compliance, and administrative recordkeeping.

This role serves as a key resource for employees and managers within specified regions within the Retail division of Goodwill SWPA, helping foster Operational Excellence and a People-First culture through positive and professional interactions and relationships, while ensuring compliance with applicable employment laws and Goodwill SWPA policies.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to begin a career in Human Resources, or who has just begun and wants to grow further.

Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-exempt.

Location: Moon Township Store - 2820 Gracy Center Way, Coraopolis, PA 15108

External Hiring Range: $24.04 - $26.44/hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday. Flexible schedule accommodating retail hours is required.

Travel: Travel to other Goodwill locations and offices is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Included but not limited to:

Retail Division Support:

  • Provide on-site general human resources support to retail employees and managers at various retail operations locations utilizing a people-first culture lens.
  • Maintain regular coordination between retail and People Services operations to ensure service continuity and sharing of information, policies, and problem solving.
  • Engage with retail store leadership to anticipate and discuss organizational changes and needs, providing analysis and recommendations.
  • Conduct applicable training sessions for retail leadership and staff, taking consultation from the Training and Development team.

People Services Department Support:

  • Confer with People Services leadership to implement personnel policies and procedures.
  • Assist with broad array of HR tasks, including but not limited to hiring events, onboarding support, unemployment claims, administrative tasks, open enrollment, coordinating with applicable centers of excellence (COEs), and other HR-related functions as assigned.
  • Attend applicable department meetings including team and weekly staff meetings

Staffing Support:

  • Assist Talent Acquisition department with hiring initiatives for designated regions/locations.
  • Identify and report staffing risks and turnover trends.
  • Coordinate and engage Employee Well-Being, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and other benefit programs based on employees’ needs.

Employee Relations:

  • Provide HR support, consultation, and mediation for basic site-level disputes or disruptions.
  • Coordinate with retail store leadership to review and approve disciplinary actions in a consistent, timely, and compliant manner; promptly escalating complex concerns to People Services leadership where appropriate.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Maintain an updated knowledge of applicable employment laws, including but not limited to DOL, FMLA, ADA, Equal Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws.
  • Assist on-site managers with incident reporting, including ensuring timeliness of reporting, completion of applicable paperwork, and notification of Risk Management team.
  • Lead and support Reasonable Suspicion Drug Testing process, as needed.

Policies and Standards:

  • Maintain a current and up-to-date understanding of and comply with all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Provide access to needed, required, or related training and development activities, and/or other practices related to performance management, including supporting and/or participating in professional development, and safety policies and safe work practices including reporting potential hazards, and wearing personal protective equipment as required, and reporting injuries or incidents.
    • accounting and financial records keeping, including timely submission of reports, reimbursement requests, and review of financial statements, logs, and ledgers, and payroll
  • Keep staff informed of all Goodwill initiatives, policy changes and updates and other general company information

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Years of Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivelant AND 5+ years of relevant experience. OR
  • Associates Degree in Human Resources or related field AND 3+ years of relevant experience. OR
  • Bachelors Degree in Human Resources or related field AND 1+ year of relevant experience.

Required:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Proven knowledge of HR practices and operations.
  • Ability to properly use basic systems (email, HRIS, Excel, Teams, reporting tools).
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Professional HR certification (SHRM, HRCI).
  • Multi-site support experience.
  • Non-profit experience.
  • Retail leadership experience.

REQUIRED CLEARANCES, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Qualified candidates must have a valid driver's license, active insurance policy, and reliable transportation for local travel.
  • Candidates are expected to complete background checks assigned by Goodwill SWPA, including a National Criminal Background check, prior to their first day of employment.
  • Candidates are expected to provide current, valid clearances (Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprints Clearance, and PATCH) prior to their first day of employment.
