HR Manager

HR Manager

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Reports to: Head of People

About the role:

Are you a builder who is driven by transformation and change? If you are curious, detail-oriented, thrive on identifying inefficiencies, and question the status quo, this might be the role for you!

We are seeking a HR Manager who doesn’t just ‘manage’, but innovates to champion a high-performance culture and exceptional employee experience across our global team, with a keen focus on our local Kenyan team. Partnering closely with the Head of People, you will help to build HR solutions from the ground up and co-create projects that scale our global impact. This role requires a collaborative approach with our shared services team and transparent, frequent communication with internal stakeholders to drive organisational success in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate is someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, is eager to innovate and evolve our practices, and relishes the chance to build HR solutions from the ground up. If you’re looking for a predictable, quiet environment, this isn’t for you.

Key responsibilities:

  • Adapt global HR processes for the local context, ensuring full compliance with Kenyan labour law and alignment with regional cultural nuances.
  • Efficiently maintain and update HR trackers, ensuring accurate HR data and reporting.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day employee relations and HR queries, utilising deep expertise in local labour law to resolve complex issues.
  • Coach and guide managers on effective people management practices, including conflict resolution, performance coaching, and team development.
  • Engage on HR projects, contributing insights to help co-design and implement initiatives that enhance organisational efficiency.
  • Support the Head of People in executing talent management and performance development initiatives, driving employee growth and capability building.
  • Champion employee engagement and culture-building initiatives within the Kenya office, designing solutions that foster a high-performance and supportive environment.
  • Support a shared culture where employees thrive and high performance is the norm rather than the exception.
  • Work to improve the employee culture and engagement across our global workforce, with a focus on the local Kenya team.
  • Assist in the rollout of organisational changes, assessing potential risks and ensuring seamless implementation with a focus on positive employee experience.
  • Collaborate with the global shared services team to ensure timely completion of deliverables, streamlining processes and reducing duplication of efforts across the group.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • CHRP or equivalent professional qualification.
  • 5–7 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a fast-paced, high-growth environment (FinTech, tech startups, or similar fast-moving industries preferred).
  • Deep, practical expertise in Kenyan Labour Law and best practices in employee relations.
  • Proven track record of supporting managers through complex employee relations and building high-performing teams.
  • Ability to think and act strategically when contributing ideas, supporting projects and providing support to employees.
  • Strong communications skills and experience communicating with senior leaders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a cross-border or multinational organisation (experience coordinating with teams across different jurisdictions is a plus).

The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Shares a passion for operational efficiency - thinking big to re-engineer efficient, scalable processes.
  • Thrives under pressure and is comfortable with ambiguity, able to leverage their own expertise to break down complex challenges, prioritise effectively, and deliver value in fast-paced, changing environments where priorities shift.
  • Communicates openly, concisely and transparently to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
  • Enjoys partnering with the leadership to implement solutions to complex challenges
  • Champions the human element with an unwavering focus on the employee experience, ensuring that every performance and culture initiative is designed to help people perform at their best while feeling supported.
