Human Resources Business Partner - Retail
Overview:
Marc Jacobs International, powered by the creative genius of Marc Jacobs, seeks a Human Resources Business Partner/Manager (HRBP) to support our retail population across North America. Based in New York City, this role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of HR support for store teams, with a strong focus on employee relations, performance management, talent acquisition, and consistent application of company policies. This is a highly operational role requiring a partner who is comfortable working directly with store managers, handling employee issues in real time, and ensuring HR practices are executed consistently across locations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employee Relations
- Manage employee relations cases from intake through resolution, including investigations, documentation, and follow-up
- Provide clear, practical guidance to store managers on performance issues, corrective action, and terminations
- Ensure consistent and compliant application of policies across all retail locations
- Escalate high-risk or complex issues as appropriate and partner with Legal/HR leadership when needed
- Track and monitor employee relations trends and support implementation of solutions
- Provide coaching to managers on handling employee issues, attendance, and team management
- Support performance management processes, including documentation and follow-up on performance conversations
- Assist in implementing talent review and development processes across retail teams
- Partner with leaders to address performance gaps and improve team effectiveness
- Collaborate with leaders to identify workforce needs
- Ensure timely hiring of quality talent for retail and support functions
- Participate in selection process for managerial and critical positions
- Support the field in workforce plans aligned with business expansion and seasonal demands
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including New York and other applicable jurisdictions
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation for all employee relations cases
- Support audits and ensure HR records are up to date
- Analyze HR metrics including turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, engagement, and productivity.
- Prepare regular reports and dashboards for business leaders.
- Use data to recommend strategic HR interventions.
- Travel to retail locations to support managers and employees directly (25–40%)
- Build strong, practical working relationships with store teams to ensure effective HR support
- 6–10 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years as an HR Business Partner or HR Manager
- Experience managing HR across multiple store locations
- Solid knowledge of U.S. employment laws; exposure to Canada is a plus
- Proven ability to manage employee relations issues
- Comfortable working in a highly hands-on, responsive role
- Strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and respond quickly to business needs
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority
- Strong commercial understanding of retail operations

SALARY & BENEFITS/WHAT WE OFFER:
The compensation for this position ranges from $110,000 - $120,000 plus bonus. The rate of pay offered will be dependent upon candidate’s relevant skills and experience.
