Human Resources Manager

As a collaborative member of the Canvas Worldwide People team, the Regional Human Resources Manager will provide generalist support to the New York, Chicago and Atlanta offices. The scope will span from on-boarding to off-boarding, including employee engagement, performance management, employee relations and operations. Will partner with People team to develop, implement and manage policies and programs that enhance and protect the Canvas culture. This position reports to the SVP, Human Resources, who is based in El Segundo, CA, and will need to exercise significant autonomy in proactively and responsibly managing regional people matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to employee and management questions, requests and concerns in a timely manner
  • Partner with senior executives to provide coaching and insights on people matters
  • Work closely with management and employees to maintain an inclusive and collaborative environment and progressive culture
  • Monitor employee sentiment and report headquarters
  • Guide managers on selection of new hires and internal promotions
  • Onboard new hires, process paperwork and create a welcoming Canvas experience
  • Guide managers through staff performance improvement and discipline process
  • Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations to evaluate and resolve moderate to complex employee relations issues
  • Provide clarification of HR policies, practices and procedures to employees and managers
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with senior leaders and managers to partner as a trusted advisor
  • Lead annual performance review process across region, participating in company-wide program
  • Identify training and development needs and participate in evaluating programs to ensure success
  • Lead, update, maintain company-wide Canvas Mentorship Program
  • Lead internal programs that support employee development, culture and efficiencies
  • Handle all leaves of absence for region in coordination with HR team – payroll & benefits
  • Conduct exit interview conversations and report feedback to managers and HR HQ
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and seek to improve where opportunities exist
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications:

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an HR Generalist role, preferably within the media and/or marketing communications industry
    • Strong knowledge of federal and state laws that affect HR policies and procedures, including EEOC, FLSA, FMLA, disability, family leave, I-9, and other regulatory and compliance laws
    • Open and collaborative, approachable communication skills and experience building strong working relationships
    • Enthusiasm for working collaboratively across multiple offices and teams
    • Results-oriented with proven ability to meet deadlines and timelines
    • A pro-active attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook, Excel, etc. with the ability to learn new systems
    • Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now
    • Demonstrated excellent critical thinking, project management and organizational skills
