HVAC Maintenance Technician

Summary

Support the maintenance department by providing effective HVAC and facility maintenance by keeping operating equipment safe, efficient and reliable. This position communicates regularly with maintenance leads, technicians, production, quality, IT, lab, engineers, reliability group, warehouse, purchasing, contractors and management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow all plant safety rules, report any unsafe conditions immediately and take immediate action as needed to mitigate any unsafe situation
  • Demonstrates leadership through maintaining a positive attitude, reliable work ethic and an overall behavior that supports and strengthens the team.
  • Must be an effective communicator and possess good listening skills
  • Research and purchase parts and services as needed to complete work orders
  • Assist leads in reviewing completed work orders and update procedures
  • Ensures that all parts and equipment are available on time for shutdown work
  • Initiate, develop and implement ideas to improve maintenance systems and processes

Skills and Specifications

  • Inspections, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of HVAC equipment including but not limited to: coil cleaning, system charging, belt replacements, coil repair, brazing, equipment replacements, and other work as needed.
  • Complete understanding of various HVAC and refrigeration units
  • Complete understanding of water cooled and air cooled industrial chillers
  • Coordinating large scale filter changes with outside contractors as well as performing in-house filter changes.
  • Ability to complete mandatory EPA documentation for routine maintenance and removal/replacement of existing units. Inputting this information in the plant database and confidence enough to review such documentation with internal and external auditors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems including experience with 480V 3phase power.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair associated equipment involved in HVAC units such as pumps, heat exchangers, ductwork, filters thermostats and other equipment.
  • Will assist in supervising HVAC contractors, routine filter changes and other duties as required.

Education and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • HVAC training and a valid up-to-date EPA 608 Type II or Universal HVAC license
  • This position involves working with technologies and information which are subject to U.S. export control regulations. Under these regulations, Toray CMA must review certain candidate information including citizenship, basis of United States work authorization and country of origin. This information would be used for export control screening purposes only.

Position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities. Ability to utilize/operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Must be able to wear a full face respirator.
