I&C Field Engineer

We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Field Engineer to support the installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of critical facility systems within a semiconductor manufacturing environment. This role will be responsible for coordinating field construction activities, supporting system startups, ensuring quality and compliance, and serving as a key liaison between contractors, design teams, and project stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting industrial, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or mission-critical facility projects and possess a strong understanding of instrumentation, controls, automation systems, and field construction practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of instrumentation and controls installation activities across semiconductor facility projects.
  • Monitor field construction activities to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, design requirements, and industry standards.
  • Direct, coordinate, and oversee I&C subcontractor activities to ensure project schedules, quality standards, and deliverables are achieved.
  • Facilitate issue resolution and problem-solving between subcontractors, vendors, and project teams during construction and installation activities.
  • Review and validate instrumentation and controls design documents, identify potential constructability concerns, and recommend practical field solutions.
  • Assist in the review and evaluation of I&C submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure approved design changes, revisions, and field modifications are properly communicated and incorporated into ongoing work.
  • Track procurement activities, equipment deliveries, and installation schedules for instrumentation and controls systems.
  • Coordinate with design engineers, consultants, inspectors, commissioning teams, and client representatives to support project execution.
  • Verify that all instrumentation and controls installations comply with project QA/QC requirements, applicable codes, and company standards.
  • Conduct field inspections and support quality audits to ensure workmanship and system performance meet project expectations.
  • Develop task-specific work plans, risk assessments, and safety documentation for high-risk activities, shutdowns, and system cutovers.
  • Support system integration activities involving Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA, PLCs, and facility automation platforms.
  • Assist with system startup, loop checks, functional testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and turnover activities.
  • Support punch list resolution, documentation completion, and project closeout activities.
  • Maintain accurate field reports, progress updates, and technical records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all site-specific environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.

Skills Required:

  • 2+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls, automation, electrical construction, commissioning, or industrial facility projects.
  • Experience supporting semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical, life sciences, industrial, or mission-critical facility projects.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation, process controls, automation systems, and industrial communication networks.
  • Familiarity with PLC, SCADA, BMS/BAS, DCS, and related control systems.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, control schematics, wiring diagrams, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, field coordination, and contractor management.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced construction and operational environments.

Education / Licenses / Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.
